    Re: The Dark Knight Rises

^ That's why I normally first type it all out in Microsoft Word. I didn't do it this last time, but I did a lot of Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C during paragraphs to make sure I didn't mess up. That sucks man, I would have almost not been motivated to re-write all of that.

By the way, you're starting to become a little bit like me. Your impressions has 2,320 words, and mine at 2,477 (not including the trailer P.S.). Better be careful there.

Great write-up, by the way. I agree with most of what you said, but maybe I don't regard some of the glaring issues as much as you do to be the main highlighted problems with the film. You'll see me state some of mine in my post, mostly having to do with story structure and not so much single-component instances.

As for one of your complaints...

I'm surprised you liked Act 3, honestly. Outside of TDK, that has been one of Nolan's weaknesses to me. It isn't so much the action itself as the logic inconsistencies with the rest of the film. In Batman Begins it was the god awful dialogue that summarized the situation every 5 minutes or Batman casually throwing off his "no kill" policy. Here I felt like it just didn't make sense considering what was happening.

Also surprised you didn't enjoy Zimmer's score here. The Bane Chant was chilling to me and eventually become pretty powerful and motivating.

I enjoyed the score, it just wasn't my favorite. My favorite one is definitely the one in A Watchful Guardian, which premiered in The Dark Knight.

And yes, for me Act 3 was when the film stepped up the most IMO, at least in a cinematic sense. Did you happen to watch it in IMAX? Maybe it was the amount of IMAX scenes that did it for me.

I think the closest IMAX theater is 2 or 3 hours away from me.

While watching I thought the first hour or two was on the par with TDK and then it started sinking back down to Begins.

Its weird that we like it for almost the exact opposite reasons, haha.

Being that 'Knightfall' is my favorite Batman arc ever, I guess my expectations of Bane were a little higher....Bane to Batman is like Doomsday to Superman for me....and I just don't think they portrayed that well...

On a positive note, Hathaway completely shocked me....was skeptical originally...

Interesting you think the Burton Batman theme was more memorable than the Nolan/Zimmer theme, FT. Outside of the nostalgia, I think the recent theme/score blows it AWAY.

I guess its time for me to go back and re watch some older Batman movies. I've never been huge on super heroes or comics, but Batman is the exception.

I think the Nolan/Zimmer theme suits the action and film better. I meant by memorable in that Elfman's theme sticks in your ear longer. Both are great for different strengths. To me, though, nothing beats the Animated Series opening theme. The Mask of the Phantasm theme ain't too shabby either. Let's be honest here. The one constant strength across all of the Batman films has been its score and soundtrack (and yes, I'm gonna include Prince's).

The Burton Batman theme has become THE Batman theme though...I don't think anything will ever top that.

I was just about to say that the Animated Series theme is what I immediately hear when I think of Batman.
