Well, they didn't really "develop" Bane's character, and then at the end the pulled the rug from underneath him by making all of the cool "child born into darkness and escapes prison" stuff abut someone elese.

So then in the end, Bane was not only inferior to Joker (as most comic villians are), but he kinda just sucked.

I was hoping those were going to be real outtakes, but that was pretty awesome regardless.

To be fair to Hardy, he did have to work within the confines of the mask. It's hard to portray emotion when the majority of your face is covered. Given that, I thought he did an absolutely incredible job. He was such an imposing figure, and had a presence about him every time he was on screen.

I still need to pick this up on Blu.

                    Spoiler
I think we're going free from spoilers now, so SPTO don't keep reading! Haha kidding.

You're right, though. I've heard too many people complain saying that it sucked we only found out Bane was just a henchman. Um yeah, that would explain how Bane personally killed dozens of people on screen— if not hundreds should you add the football sideline players and personnel—including the mayor and government special forces. Not to mention he hijacked a CIA plane, kidnapped a nuclear physicist, and wrecked the plane leaving no survivors; led and controlled an underground army of mercenaries and desperate folk, attacked the Gotham Stock Exchange and bankrupted Bruce Wayne, removed him completely from the equation by neutralizing him as the Batman, successfully heisted the concealed armory of a multi-billion dollar enterprise and abducted the entire Wayne board, used resources to take control over a device and successfully turn it into a neutron bomb, trapped every Gotham police unit underground and forced the rest into hiding, and delivered two speeches which self-organized a citywide occupancy for five months, holding the city at hostage and effectively keeping out the government or any outside assisting parties.

And what the hell did Talia do? Sleep with Bruce and play French? Yeah, sounds like a real master there. Newsflash: this was a cooperative plan and effort. Bane put everything into motion, and Talia revealed herself as the trigger-person. I think she merely carried on the rest of the way mostly because Bane was finally subdued and unable to mobilize. Shucks, you want to call Bane just a henchman? How about the fact that he directly disobeyed Talia's order to keep Bruce alive as the bomb would go off? "You'll just have to imagine the fire." I don't think there is any person who can simply just negate anything and everything that Bane did just because there was a later reveal upon his death. Think of it like in Casino Royale you don't consider Le Chiffre to be the main malefactor just because he's a part of a larger terrorist organization. I don't quite think that demoralizes his villainy.

Anyway, as far as Bane's death, I'm neither here nor there. I appreciate that Nolan understands not every major villain has to go off in the most epic way. It makes it that much more surprising when he died, in my opinion (by Selina Kyle no less). The only thing I wish happened was that it was confirmed he died on that blow. I know it should be pretty obvious that he did anyway, but then again that blast also should have ruptured him. What I mean is that I went through the rest of the film wondering if he was going to pop up again. It was just strange that there was no look back at him in any way whatsoever.

I thought Bane was a very good villain. I don't think that anyone can top the Joker, but I think any attempt to would either come off as sad or a carbon-copy. That's one reason to avoid throwing in the Riddler, because a realistic portrayal of him would have given him the same "dark edge" as Ledger's Joker. Bane seemed completely different, and much more similar to Ra's. That's okay though, especially with his acts of decadence on Gotham as he led the League of Shadows.

I do wish they considered tweaking Bane's voice more though, perhaps from the original work that we heard in Trailer #2 and the IMAX prologue. If clarity could have been achieved, I would have preferred that voice in the end. The Blu-ray mix is reported to be the same as the theatrical mix, which means he is far overpowering in some scene, particularly the opening.

By the way, I still don't yet own the Blu-ray. I'm waiting for Christmas to come. I don't know why I torture myself like this, because I'm doing nothing but reading up on everything TDKR-related. I've done this with The Dark Knight and Inception before it though, and it mostly relates to the fact that I need to finish up my finals for school and not let the film get in the way of that stuff.

Great film, though. And great "non-henchman" villain.

I didn't like Bane's death more in how it came about. He's about to finish off Batman but "at the last second" Catwoman shows up to blow him away when we all thought she was gone for good. One of those "surprise" returns that come out of the blue and where the returning character has impeccable timing.

That type of plot device has been done a gazillion times in half the action movies ever made where the protangonist gets his butt saved in the nick of time by that conflicted character who's only in it for themselves but have a change of heart. Was underwhelming but it really lacked imagination, that's for sure.

Oh, all the time. It will never go away. It's the one sham of the show Person of Interest, though like a play-action, the one time it doesn't work it becomes an awesome shocker. Too bad it wasn't here... but to be honest, the death completely took me by surprise. I actually thought Batman was vulnerable here.

Hell, when the shot when off, I thought Batman's head blew off.

The only thing I wish was different was to have Bane really display his brutal and ruthless strength more. There was so much potential with that character.

It took you by surprise? I totally expected it when Catwoman pretty much said to Batman "sorry dude, I have to leave because I got better things to do, its been a blast"

Then the original SW movie immediately came to mind when Han Solo pretty much said the same thing to Luke and then came back to save his bacon right when Luke was gonna get blown to smithereens.

They just built an IMAX in my town. The Grand Opening is Friday, but Monday-Wed, they're showing $2 movies, and this is one of them. I think I'll go catch it in IMAX (that and Nemo).

I just thought Bruce was going to die. In fact, I thought Talia was ready to hang him before hand when the rope around him, especially when he was grasping for breath and she twisted the knife into him. I mean it's the end of a trilogy, so all bets are off. I kind of forgot about Selina for the long bit... not because I thought she fled, but because she wasn't on my mind.

I'm guessing it's not an old-school 15/70 IMAX with the full 1.44:1 framing, correct?
