Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
BEN: No. Their here because they want to be here. Some of them are just not ready to make a full...commitment yet. But you John...you've already made that commitment. And now you have a choice...because if you stop and think, I can show you things. Things I know you want to see very badly. Let me put it so you'll understand. Picture a box. You know something about boxes, don't you John? What if I told you that somewhere on this island there's a very large box...and whatever you imagined...whatever you wanted to be in it...when you opened that box, there it would be. What would you say about that, John?
LOCKE: I'd say I hope that box is big enough to imagine yourself up a new submarine.

But there's a good chance that Ben is talking about the Temple or some other place on the island that can get things that you want.
It would probably explain why Sawyer and Kate saw that black stallion from her past.Comment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
Interesting:
Hieroglyphs are writing systems that use iconic symbols to communicate messages. Multiple ancient cultures used hieroglyphs, but the most famous variety are Egyptian hieroglyphs. There have been numerous encounters with hieroglyphs throughout Lost. Damon Lindelof indicated in Access: Granted that the symbols are used because "there are many interpretations of hieroglyphics [sic], that's what we were going for." Some of the hieroglyphs, like those on the countdown timer in the Swan station...
The boarding pass featured on ajirairways.com [3] has hieroglyphs in semi-transparency in the corners and along the top and bottom of the sample pass. Visible are the same 5 hieroglyphs from the countdown timer: S29, Z7, U29, G1, and Z6, which producer Damon Lindelof translated to mean "underworld".Comment

I think they took Locke's father to that closet. That's not where he popped out from on the Island.
Good episode. I wished it was a bit tighter. Kinda felt like some parts were stretched out too long. At least we have a better idea what the smoke monster is, though, why it exists remains a mystery."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I hope it's explained where it came from and how it works.
For all we know, it's the combination of all the lost souls that died on that island. It can see the past, present and future and makes sure that the survival of the island is never in danger.
Which makes me wonder how they're going to explain why it killed Echo. I know that the actor who portrayed him wanted out so they had to kill him off. But I hope they explain why Smokey was the one to do it.Comment

Christian Shepherd's coffin was intact and when it was opened, there wasn't a body. So if that's a coffin I'm doubting Locke is inside.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
That would be terrible writing if Locke was the smoke monster. He is one of your most important characters, so to kill him off like that would just be terrible. Plus, the first scene you see him (looking at the main island eating a mango) is a scene of a man reborn, not that of how the smoke monster would act.
The smoke monster has always "changed" the person he is pretending to be, where as Locke is pretty much the same - just now giving Ben **** for killing him.
yeah, but locke does know "more" now somehow.
remember the scene where hes taking ben where he needs to go? Bens like "did the stuff just pop in your head, or do you gradually get to know stuff."
the thing with time travel now is that anyone can be alive and dead at the same time.
I know its unlikely, but if the writers got flack from "killing locke" and making him the smoke monster, they can fix it by making locke time travel from a point when he was alive to where he is now, then essentially go back to die, thus completing a "journey" and his "destiny".
im not saying thats a legit theory but regardless of what we are led to believe, we cant believe whats happening until they say it 100%. Like the statue. Im like 90% sure its anubis, but I cant but off until richard or someone says the statue is anubis.Comment
