I believe in a Podcast someone brought up the fact everytime Locke gets near that Nigerian Drug Plane he loses his ability to walk, and Carlton Cuse said that it's an important thing and we'll soon see what is at the top of the plane that Locke can't get to or what is affecting him.

Or, much like Desmond trying to save Charlie's life but eventually realizing that no matter what he did, the Island was going to make sure that Charlie died.
Or, like Michael being told by Tom that the Island won't let him kill himself. Michael pulls the trigger and nothing happens despite what was supposed to be a loaded gun.
I guess it really comes down to finding out why Jacob wants those people at the Island. Why would he want to bring them there? Why those specific people?
Did he know that Locke would be used by the Smoke Monster to kill him? If he did, why would he let Locke live? It must mean he has a bigger plan that can only happen through his death. If he didn't, well, what kind of omnipotent power is he then if he can draw people to the Island but can't even prevent his own death? Seems weak.
I also don't think that explosion was caused by the hydrogen bomb. It's something else. Trickery."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Thing is, Locke is dead so he won't ever see it. For those that keep asking about the Numbers. What is it that you want answered about them?
I feel like they have done everything to explain them. At first we wanted to know why they were entering those numbers in the Hatch and why Hurley was afraid of them.
Now we see that in 1977, it was just a random number assigned to the hatch door. And that number was the number used for the button in the hatch. Hurley knew of the numbers because of the guy in the hospital who had spent time at sea (I'm sure that's his story...) and heard them over the radio.

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I read an interview with Terry O'Quinn today in regards to his job on Lost.
SpoilerO'Quinn confirmed Locke is dead and not coming back. He'll be a different character in Season 6, presumably the guy we saw for the last portion of S5.
On another note, I'm curious to see how Whidmore plays into all of this. I'm still not sure how he fits in with Jacob and MiB.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
Hmm, I guess, I don't know...I guess I don't see how it's much of a spoiler. Maybe people want to believe otherwise, but the man's body was in a casket. I do agree that finding out what happens with him is a spoiler for those that don't want to know. But Locke is dead. That's not ruining anything.
Anyway, I also do wonder about Widmore. Widmore was an Other and that must mean that Widmore knows of Jacob, right? Ok. According to Illana, you act to protect the man in the statue. We know that Jacob has lived in that statue since at least the 1800's. We can only assume even longer. So, Jacob has always been the one that you protect (or perhaps at one time replaced that man, but he is that man now).
Ben has never met Jacob. No telling if Widmore has, but Alpert stated that only the Leader can see Jacob and Jacob must request their meeting, not the other way around. For Alpert to know this, he must have seen this happen at least once, right? It seems awkward to go 200 years and not once have had a leader meet Jacob. Alpert might not be one to question Jacob because of his gift of eternal youth, but 200 years is a long time to tell people to continue being patient if you know that no one can be patient long enough since they'll die before it even matters.
Widmore seems to be acting out for the Island. He wants to find it because he wants to protect it from those that want to make it into a cash cow. Not his exact words, but you get that feeling from him - he buys the books, the artifacts, the information, and stages the plane crash so that no one can ever know of the place.
So Widmore is acting in good faith. Has to be. And if he doesn't agree with Ben, then he must feel that Ben is not a good person. Jacob asks, "What about you, Ben?" That was wow for me. You couldn't humiliate a person any worse in my opinion. Ben is not important to Jacob. Widmore must know this. But why? Why, why, why!?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I also don't see that as much of a spoiler. Although I did like John Locke character and was a lil upset that he had to die. Every since the first season I have liked John Locke character and while he did have a rough life I wouldn't say I feel bad for him. He was at peace on the island so atleast before he died he was able to have that. He was a believer in destiny so the fact that him dying helped the others get back to the island he probably wouldn't change a thing. goes back to his "A sacrifice the island demanded" line he would always say about Boone.
But about that interview, never read too much into what the actors, producers, etc say. They have been very good at preventing spoilers and getting people to say things that may not be 100% true. I'm not saying O'Quinn is or isn't telling the truth just that sometimes writers like to throw curveballs. I still don't buy that Ben was a 2 episode character that was changed. Alot of stuff has focused around him and u don't re-write a character that involved with the stuff going on. W/o Ben alot of the show would look different.
It will be a long wait till January, might hafta watch all the seasons over again. knowing all that has happened Staring from the beginning might be a different experience, might notice things I didn't know about before.
Anybody know when Season 5 is set to
come out?Comment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I think Jacob is the "bad" guy and smokey turns out to be the "good" guy, in this good vs evil saga.
The man with Jacob said, "They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same."
I dont know but that would be a twist.Last edited by bigmoe; 05-17-2009, 10:10 PM.Comment

I'm fine with the numbers being nothing more than mere coincidence, but I sure they got their jollies reading all the theories about the numbers and why they kept running into them, seats on the plane, soccer team jersies, etc.Last edited by fistofrage; 05-18-2009, 09:35 AM.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: *** LOST: Season 5 Discussion***
I don't think its as much why people want answers about the numbers as theywonder why so much effort was put into trying to perplex the audience with the numbers. They spent countless hours of the show focusing on them. Literally everything at the beginning of the show related back to the numbers.

everything about the show moves soooo slowly, if you watch all the episodes of the series in a week, i dont think the numbers play as much of a role. In the beginning, they were what "brought" hurley to the island, then they were on the hatch and the numbers they put in the computer.
After that, they seem like more of an easter egg than anything. like now you just see them in weird places and whatnot but I dont think they have any importance on the show anymore.Comment
