Knowing - Never have I seen a movie be so fascinating for an hour and a half and then, with a half hour left, completely melt down into a heap of crap. Honestly, I was so into it for so long, and then the end came and I ended up laughing at the ridiculousness of it.

Avatar 3-D
First of all, kudos to James Cameron and crew to make a movie like this actually happen. If you sit back and think what had to be done to make something like this, you'd wonder how it's even possible that they are planning sequels for this.
So finally we get a big-budget, big-hype movie where it's not necessarily an adaptation of anything marveled by the public majority. This means no people dressed in costumes, no rowdy critics bashing their destroying of the original work, and though it sounds strange there are no homages to be paid on the big screen (simple quotes or ideas). Everything was original, and it played off the right way in that regard. Though, I feel like I have seen the story before, taken from many other movies and put into place in Avatar. Original concept, original screenplay... but played-off plot thickenings.
Needless to say, this movie isn't for everybody. Titanic can realistically be for everybody, but I can't see the two sequels overall get as much buzz and gain that is worth their time, efforts, and money to make two more sequels. Not only that, but I just don't know if people will be far too interested in mostly a life on Pandora. We just saw it once, but probably with less reality intact, it won't get the same crowd that it did this time around.
My opinion? Well I saw an 11:00 showing and started to fade out during the last third of the movie. I didn't fall asleep, but I hit those points where I asked when it would end, only because I felt it needed to. The end segment is packed with action though, so I'm certainly glad that was in. Only, as I was describing earlier, the latter half of the movie really focuses more on Pandora and less on the humans, and more so than less was I feeling the CGI hit me as exactly that. Though, there were some camera angles where I said, "I can't wait until video games look like that!"
Though I'm glad I gave the movie a chance. I continually neglected it, thinking that the CGI would be too fake for me and that I couldn't get into blue people. Though I still didn't fully buy it, I liked it much more than I thought I would initially. However, it was too much of a ride for me to handle again and again. Therefore... epic spectacle, but no Blu-ray purchase for me.
And if you guys see it, you owe it to yourself to watch it in 3-D or IMAX (or both). That's how a movie like this is meant to be seen.Last edited by Blzer; 12-27-2009, 07:04 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Unfortunately, if you stayed for the conclusion the score drops to a 3-4.
Couldn't believe how bad it got, so quickly.
Felt the same way with I am Legend.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
I always liked the alternate/original cut of I am Legend than what they put out in theaters. It had to be a last second thing too because the trailers had bits of the original cut that wasn't shown in the theater. Somewhat closer to the book too. Somewhat.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Revolutionary Road - Pretty good movie overall that was carried by Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet. Both of them came off as very real and their fights were incredibly tense. I would not watch this movie again because it is extremely depressing, but for it was a good movie overall. The ending was hard to watch though.
He's Just Not That Into You - Man my girlfriend was pissed off at me because I decided to watch this the other night after I took her to the airport (she really wanted to watch this with me). I started about ten minutes into the movie but it's not that big of a deal. There were some interesting storylines going on and some good acting. It sort of broke away from the standard "chick flick", but I'm not sure how lol. It was alright. One of the chicks in the movie was absolutely crazy. I'll probably have to watch this one again when my girlfriend gets back.
Remember the Daze - Wow, I've been watching some bad movies as of late. This was about kids graduating from highschool and others who were just entering highschool. It seemed like a mix of Thirteen, Can't Hardly Wait, Dazed and Confused, etc. It did nothing well. The acting was mediocre. The story was full of loose ends. And I was shaking my head the whole time watching this. If I wasn't already six beers deep and two funny ciggarettes in before I watched this then I would have changed it. It's amazing how far away the remote seems when your head is a bit loopy. Garbage movie.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock IMO this is probably the only good odd numbered Trek film. Sure, it wasn't the most exciting but it wasn't totally crap either. I think you have to watch it immediately after WOK though in order to appreciate it fully. At least the movie isn't an embarrassment to the franchise that The Final Frontier was.
The main problem with SFS is that it felt a bit unnecessary because the film was made due to fans going apesh#%&t over Spock dying in the previous movie. Nonetheless they did the best they could with the movie and while some parts felt like "been there done that" with the whole Genesis Planet stuff at least it held my interest. Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon was a little weird to me. He had the right body type but his voice just didn't give me the feeling of a real threatening Klingon. Then again, Edward James Olmos (who was considered for the role) would've been even worse.
There was a lot in this movie that could've been great but due to Paramount wanting to cut costs it just didn't work out right. A prime example is when Kirk and crew steal the Enterprise out of spacedock in order to get to the Genesis Planet.
The movie gets a solid 2 out of 4 stars and it's better then what you've probably heard.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
2012-
For one the commercials and trailers made it look as if the movie was solely based on the Mayan's prediction that the world would end in 2012....however the movie wasn't really about that; it was more like "The Day After Tomorrow" but a bit more extreme.
The CGI in many of the segments looked down right "bad" only because you could tell it was CGI...... On the performances and script, i guess it's a give and take. It was alright but again it really really reminded me of The Day After Tomorrow.

Also agree with the bad CG in 2012. It looked very cheap.
But the movie in general was a let-down because it wasn't serious and dark enough. I mean, as they are flying away in that little plane the world is literally falling apart and the guy and kid are like 'whoa look at that'...
Anyway, I watched The Hangover for the first time last night.
Didn't love it like most reviews and comments I've seen, but it was pretty funny.
It didn't have the typical flow and style to it like most Hollywood comedy's which was mostly good but sometimes worked against it. Plus the scenes at the end (in the credits) were a bit much.
Just watched Law Abiding Citizen too. Awesome movie!! Great acting, good story and good action.
Planning on watching Avatar in 3D again this week.Comment
