But here's how I saw the ending, quite simply...

This is neither happy nor sad. There are sides to this thing and who knows how the story would ultimately continue. But ^this^ much is at least true.

I saw Green Room last night. It was okay, worth watching but not as good as I hoped. Man, RIP Anton Yelchin.

To contribute to this thread, I just saw Sicario. I found the imagery to be rather unique and the grit to prove strongly with great acting, but I didn't find Blunt's character to be all that necessary for the plot's sake (I understand her need in it, but she felt more like a piece to tell the story rather than to advance it). For a take on modern crises in the cartel, I found it to be just enough to satisfy my needs, though I probably will not watch it again.

I'm not arguing here either, but I'll justify my reasoning (for myself and others, though there is a stickied thread for it of course).

I just think this thread has to be spoiler-free. Even someone once put the ending of Saving Private Ryan and I had quibbles with that, and that's nearly twenty years old. I can't enter this thread if I have a feeling I'm going to run into spoilers for a film that I haven't seen.

Again, if you're in the Whiplash thread, that is entirely fair game after maybe even a week of its theatrical release. In here? You don't know what you're going to run into. And not everybody has the time nor devotes their financial happenings into a film, despite their want to see it. I only saw Whiplash because it was on sale at Best Buy and I had to spend a rewards certificate; if not for that, I shamefully still would not have seen it. It just wasn't convenient for me, and as far as I know it hasn't appeared on Netflix or Hulu (even if it has, I haven't had those this entire time it's been out).

The way I see it, what's the harm in wrapping spoilers? Had to type a few more characters? I think that's an easy sacrifice to make in such a thread regarding general film discussion. I try and make every review I make so very spoiler-free as to place in the tone of the film and my feeling coming out of it. I hope people appreciate them, but I make strong efforts to go spoiler-free. If I want to bring up spoiler talk, I'll tag it. I just find it really hassle-free, and the point of this thread is to give others a chance to view it.

I mean, you're the one who just saw it, right? What if you were in this thread hoping to see some rave about Doctor Strange, only for Jare and myself to have a spoilerific conversation about Whiplash moments before you were going to watch it? Maybe you don't care about spoilers, I don't know... but the point is that it took you two years to see it, ventured into the film blindly to see the outcome, and now want to indulge in conversation. I just think it's polite to do.

Ghostbus...... I can't even type the rest of it. It shouldn't have been allowed that name. Pure garbage. Not one funny scene. Couldn't finish it. All of the trailer bashing was spot on.

Really disagree. Thought it was fine. Great? No. Funny and a good time? Yes.

A 5.4 on IMDB and a 55% audience score on RT. That's a pretty "meh" response on a larger pool. Looks like there's 2 kind of people in this world.

Don't get me wrong .... I really like McCarthy (in certain instances), Wiig and McKinnon. Leslie Jones I can do without (she plays basically the same character throughout). I'm just in the crowd that doesn't like this unnecessary reboot.

The discussions that happened when Whiplash came out regarding the ending and the moral of the story really fascinated me.

I guess I will just spoil this just in case even though I think this post is clear by the spoiler rules guidelines

There were some really hot takes regarding the teacher (good guy vs bad guy perspectives) and the drummer (forgot Teller's character's name)

The ending is actually very dark if you look at it from a certain angle. He turns his back on his father, who he disapproves of the entire movie (you have to look for subtle hints at this) to turn back to the man he truly respects who has put him through so much. The look on the fathers face during the solo says it all. He has lost his son, right there, at that moment, at the moment of his son's true realization. Pretty dark stuff IMO. What price did the drummer pay to reach his goal?

Lot of philosophical stuff too regarding the cost of greatness, positive vs negative reinforcement, self-worth, road to greatness being dark and cloudy, and what not. In the end it was clear that was one wa and one way alone that the drummer was going to reach his potential and the question is was it worth everything he went through to get there, and if so, is the teacher actually the hero for doing what he set out to do, inspire greatness?

If you watch the movie and listen to all the anecdotes about great drummers and the lengths it took to get them to where they wanted to be, they almost all happen in one way or another (including having the stand or whatever thrown at him) to the drummer throughout the movie. The director of the movie said that his vision was in the future you would hear that the drummer died of a drug overdose alone in apartment years later

I really liked that movie.

The actual performance gave me chills tho. I know it wasnt really him drumming but whoever was, that was epic ****

The ending is basically an accumulation and biproduct of everything that happens to Andrew throughout the course of the movie (and the character's life)

That's one perspective.

Here is what I thought about the ending. And I am a going on 35 years, semi pro rock guitarist/musician/songwriter.

When he had that conversation with his jazz band instructor about that trumpet solo from Charlie Parker and how it was at that moment he knew he had arrived.....well he had that watershed moment at the end of the movie. His fathers reaction was one of shock and awe and the realization of how incredible his son really is on the drum kit and why he took all that abuse. It was to get to that one moment.

Brilliant movie and one of my favorites in the last 15 years. Just a powerful movie all the way around. Incredible performances.

Seriously, though, I went into it with a pretty open attitude since I do like most of the major cast members. I just thought it fell very flat. Moving right along......

I thought the reboot was not needed as well. I was very hesitant to even go see it, but my son really wanted to go and he loves my 1984 original. I was pleasantly surprised as I had zero expectations and laughed my *** off. I did not take one minutes of it seriously nor compare it to the original. It made me laugh a lot.

Mission accomplished.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I can remember when the original trailer came out for Ghostbusters and thought "what in the world"? But then, of course, Murray, Akroyd and Ramis took over!
