Bad Moms. I felt my estrogen levels rise slightly. Not a guy flick at all.

      If I Stay

It's kind of "The Lovely Bones meets (500) Days of Summer." Chloë Grace Moretz was the main redeeming quality of the film, as no one else could act their way out of a paper bag. The writing didn't really help, as most of it felt pretty amateurish.

It never really dragged so to speak, but at some point you wonder when everything will become resolute because, it does kind of play out a little bit. The way it messed with the timeline was really interesting, and was the absolutely best way to tell the story... though at times it was a bit hard to follow what was a flashback, or what place in time something happened, etc. Shooting locations were excellent, but the cinematographer didn't do their best to capture the essence and beauty of every scene, though it was still okay.

For watching a flick on Hulu with my mom, it could have been much worse. Don't expect very much out of it, though.

I saw a 5 minute clip of Coach Carter...apparently it's a film inspired by true events in 1999 or so (Google Ken Carter lockout). I'm going to rent it and watch it soon as it looks interesting.

It's a good movie. I've only seen it once, and bought it for $3.99 with the $5 mystery coupon (alongside Casper haha), but I really did enjoy the flick. For all of the flack that a lot of Disney films get (or biopics/inspired by true story films), this seems to beat a lot of what makes those tropes a little bit of eye-rollers.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.

It was ok. Anna Kendrick's friend in the movie wasn't a great actress. I'm glad I got it on a Black Friday sale as this movie doesn't warrant a full price purchase.

I loved the mythos and subtle world building that occurs over the course of the movie. The voice work is great, but Matthew McConaughey steals the show with a great performance.

If I were to make a comparison it would be to How To Train Your Dragon with a dash of Mulan. Superb film. Easily one of the best so far this year with all the mundane super hero offerings.
Great movie. Just saw it with the kids this weekend at home. Loved it. You should see the behind the scenes stuff on Youtube. Unbelievable the amount of work that gets put into making this type of film.

                  Eddie The Eagle

When I saw a preview this was going to be a movie I got excited for 2 reasons. 1) There has never really be a movie centred around the sport of ski jumping which I've always loved, and watch whenever it's on and wish I had the opportunity of trying growing up. It's like flying and it's just amazing to me.

                  2) Eddie's story and the '88 olympics in Calgary. That was the same year the Jamaican bobsled team competed and Eddie were both huge 'feel good' stories.

                  Verdict:
It's awesome. It has such a fun vibe all the way through. And it moves from starting very corny/sentimental/goofy and progressively takes itself more seriously as the movie wears on which is a good thing - but never gets too serious. It's a great story, a unique way of filming it and had great characters along the way. It's a very fun movie and I recommend it to anyone.

                  Creed:
great reboot of the Rocky franchise and no need to go into detail as many other members have already sung it's praises. There really aren't many bad boxing movies incidently, there's just something about them that are always compelling. Great Casting too I thought, other than the major opponent at the end. Loved the ending too.

Last night I watched an old American International Pictures film called The Bonnie Parker Story (1958). It's basically drive-in fare but sometimes you need a little junk cinema LOL! The pace was pretty good which I attribute to director William Witney, a veteran of the serial days and small budget studio films. The movie is wildly inaccurate AND they chose not to use Clyde Barrow but rather name his character Guy Darrow!

The main reason to watch the movie was for Dorothy Provine who played the Bonnie role with gusto. I took exceptional glee whenever she took out the Tommy Gun and started shooting up LOL! It isn't too bad or offensive of a film and I enjoyed it.

                      Chappie

When I recorded this to my DVR, I knew that it had Hugh Jackman and was about a robot... and as I was watching it, I realized this wasn't Real Steel. I somehow confused the two movies, and then re-remembered that this was District 9 guy who did this film.

The robot was cute (not like WALL-E or Echo cute, but just with how impressionable it was), while the movie suffered in many places. It's not like the wrong story was told, but man it's hard to side with any of the characters in this film. Just nobody outside of Chappie and his "maker" are all that likable. It's like watching The Mist, lol.

While this was just okay, I did like District 9 a lot and thought that was the better film. This robot was great though, and just had so much character. I was really losing it the first 15-20 minutes of the film before he comes into play, and once that happened I was pretty much "hooked" because of my draw to him. Outside of that, meh... I think if you give it a chance, you might be one who enjoys it quite a bit. It hits just enough of a niche to possibly work.

The Night of the Hunter. It's on MGM/demand now, such a great movie. Robert Mitchum is devilish and some of the early lighting effects still look good. He still makes my skin crawl as Rev. Harry Powell.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I watched one of the truly classic westerns yesterday in Ride The High Country (1962) . It was the last film of Randolph Scott and one of the last for Joel McCrea. Here's a plot summary from IMDB:

An ex-union soldier (McCrea) is hired to transport gold from a mining community through dangerous territory. But what he doesn't realize is that his partner and old friend (Scott) is plotting to double-cross him.
It's a little more complex than that but that gives you the basic gist of the story. Scott's character Gil Westrum also brings along his young associate Heck Longtree (Ron Starr) on the trek. They end up spending overnight at a farmer's place and Longtree falls for the young daughter Elsa played by Marriette Hartley. She desires to escape from her domineering father to go off and marry her boyfriend who happens to be a miner at the camp.

The movie is a great watch mainly for the interaction between McCrea and Scott. Scott tries to butter up his old friend so that they ALL can steal the gold so you see those two often reminiscing about their past together. Eventually Scott realizes that tactic won't work and tries a more forceful approach only to find out McCrea had a feeling all along that this would happen. There is a bit of sentimentality to this film and in a lot of ways it's a movie that thematically would've fit like a glove for Scott's directorial partner Bud Boeticher who he tried to enlist to direct this. Sam Peckinpah however directed this movie wonderfully and unlike some of his other movies this one doesn't have the crazy violence that his later films were full of.

If you like westerns and haven't seen this then you owe it to yourself to do so. The ending is a bit predictable but the journey that takes you there is well worth it.
