I watched Cloverfield last night and I liked it more than I thought I would.

Just stay away from the Netflix "sequel" (Paradox). Has next to nothing to do with it.

Oddly enough, I watched that one soon after it came out because my friend wanted to do a podcast about it. Yeah, it has absolutely nothing to do with the original.

Well, I'd say 10 Cloverfield Lane has less to do with it than The Cloverfield Paradox does. They are either all loosely connected or it just exists in the same name only.

Not sure how you measure that, but okay. 10 definitely a better movie overall though...not even close.

Went on a mini-Vince Vaughn film festival. Dodgeball and The Wedding Crashers. He seems like the kind of actor you'd really like or really dislike. I like when he goes into his manic loosely connected explanations to basically talk his way out of something. He probably would've made a good salesman had he not gone into acting.

Watched both the last two days and agree.

The Quiet Place I highly recommend, what an experience. Just hope everyone in the theater shuts the hell up. I stopped eating because it was loud.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I thought a Quiet Place was excellent. While watching it, it didn't dawn on me until later on during the film that there wasn't much (if any) spoken dialogue for the first twenty minutes or so. Hell, I doubt there are more than thirty or forty words actually spoken throughout the entire experience. That said, the film delivered way beyond my expectations.

I tend to go to matinee's, so the theatre was quiet and respectful. I would've hated to see this with a bunch of morons talking. This isn't a scary film in my opinion, but it's very suspenseful. To see Jim from the Office in this role was quite a jump from how I remember him. Finding out later that he directed it gave me a newfound respect for the guy.

I highly recommend this movie. It's well constructed and it held my attention from start to end. I also want give some love to the young girl in the film. I thought she did a great job with her role.

Paradox has more concurrent ties with the original film. Of course, the paradoxical aspect screws things up a lot.

Lane may have made mention on the radio about the NY happenings, but I forget.

I agree with this one. Really wish I didn't see any trailers before Lane though and that I didn't know the Cloverfield name with it. It would have been a lot more suspenseful going through the film. My pre-conceived thoughts of the film's resolution were actually all confirmed from the poster and slogan alone, which was just unfortunate because it was a really good film otherwise.

I gotta find the person who said it was a joke for them to cast Goodman.

Erm, I meant it in maybe a different way that I said it, but prior to looking it up I just recall somebody had second thoughts about the casting decision prior to seeing the film. I guess that's what I meant.

And I didn't mean that casting him was a joke, but that as he has been a more joking fellow in his career that it was a questionable casting decision. Anyway, more and more comedians are fitting their ways into the serious realm and prove to be pretty good at it all the same.

But you know I agree with that in as evidenced by my comments in that thread.
