The 1989 Batman is such an amazing looking movie. Yeah the performances are great, but Burton's vision of Gotham as 1930s Warner Bros gangster movie New York/Chicago but modern is so damn cool and singular. Batman Returns had those vibes too, but that movie feels way more slick and borderline Disney-fied by comparison. He had to fight with the studio and corporate sponsors/advertisers to keep Returns somewhat grimey and dark, but it still feels so corny to me by comparison.

The 1989 one was a shot in the dark, and it wasn't until execs saw the finished film that they realized what they had and amped up the advertising and branding and realized they could market it as a potential franchise. Compare that to now when movies have sequels before they even start filming lol.

      Creed III

I'm content to wait and watch movies from home now, so I'm a few months behind the theatrical release. Went back and re-read the comments from this when it first came out, and I'm pretty much in agreement. Probably my least favorite of the Creed movies (I need to go back and watch the first one again), but I still enjoyed it. MBJ and Majors are both great. And while she doesn't have a ton of screen time, Tessa Thompson is underrated in this trilogy.

I'm fine with Rocky not being in this, with one exception: There's no way he wouldn't have been at the funeral. I guess you could argue he was there and they just didn't show him. But I would have liked a quick cameo there.

        Agree.

        Creed II
        Creed
        Creed III

        All are great movies.

I have yet to see The Flash, but I'm only recently hearing about Keaton's Batman making an appearance in the movie so I'm wondering if I should go back and rewatch that as well.

Anyway, I love listening to the Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin commentary for this movie (it may be on YouTube, not sure). One of Kevin's hilarious takes is "If you watch this movie on mute, you'd think it's about Batman trying to stop the Joker from taking over the Monarch Theater."

I haven't seen the movie in forever, but pretty much every exterior shot always has it in the background. Obviously they got the bigger budget for Batman Returns an improved things there, but Burton had the right idea for maintaining many night shots for all the right reasons (very Batman-Gothic-like, plus giving every exterior the best look on a budget).

For sure, the success of the first film gave them a bigger budget. Batman Returns looks and feels more like a modern Tim Burton movie, for better or worse. People knock Batman Forever and Batman & Robin as fully jumping the shark, but the last time I watched Batman Returns it felt like that movie had one foot in that direction already. And the more studio meddling you get the more generic and lame things end up lol.

                Spoiler
because to me Returns has always been the darker Burton Batman by far. That movie is so out there that sometimes I don't know how it got release

Just to be clear, I like them both :P

Saw Batman Returns. Started off good then kinda went downhill. Because I've watched it's always sunny I can't stop thinking of Danny Devito as Frank Reynolds lol. Didn't really like what they did with Penguin. Only thing I really liked was how Michelle Pfeiffer looked in that catwoman outfit

Gotham looked horrible in returns. But that had to do with them filming in the studio lots. Shame what happened later on with WB deciding to move on from Burton and Keaton.

We took our 7yo to see 'Elemental' on Saturday. It was pretty good.

And as a follow-up to my last post...i've listened to the 'Across the Spider-Verse' soundtrack at least once every day since seeing the movie. Metro Boomin did his thing with that one.

                      The Flash

I really liked it. NGL they fan serviced the hell out of me on this one and I was all for it.

Also I believe there was a special shout-out to one of my favorite YouTubers in the movie and thought that was really special. He passed away and would have loved this movie.

I actually thought this was one of the better DC movies, just too bad the lead is a terrible person.

Went to see The Blackening and Spider-Verse the last two nights. Both really fun. Blackening was an excellent theater experience with the crowd.

Spider-Verse is simply a great movie, period. Maybe my only complaint is at the very beginning and end (like 5 minutes on each end), the drums drown out the actor’s voices pretty badly. We were really struggling to understand what they were saying.

This is why we need closed captions in Theaters(assuming they don’t already have them).

Interesting. Word has it they had addressed the audio mix issue in Spider-Verse. There are even articles about it.

I had the same problem, but I saw it both times on opening weekend before they had addressed it.

Hard pass. I get if there is an option available for people, but I don't want subtitles on my screen unless I have to have them (foreign languages, for example). I hate watching streaming content at another family member's house because they have their apps with CC on all the time.

It forces me to read it when I already know what's being said. You could say "ignore it," but that is a conscious act to do (meaning I'm "aware" of it the entire time, like trying to avoid looking at the sports ticker to not see scores for other games), and my mind subconsciously sees the length of the text so I'm aware of how long that person will speak for before they finish their sentence. That's by no means a spoiler of any kind, but expectation has been set.

I don't need that in my theater-going experience. Again, the option would be fine if they offered that for a screening or two in the day. I'd avoid those screenings though. But when you say "This is why they need them," what they need is a better audio mix. Strangely enough, this is something they actually did. Maybe his theater didn't get the file.

EYE just like to know what they’re saying, that’s all. Watching The Wire engrained that in me that I gotta have captions lol

But they don’t spoil anything for me, especially if I’ve been paying attention to the movie anyway. That’s just me though
