I love the lack of reading comprehension on this board.

I watched Daybreakers this morning. It was surprisingly good and easily my favorite vampire movie since Blade.

I watched Avatar in 3D a couple nights ago. I had no interest in this movie at all starting from when the trailers were first released and up until I saw it. Well, after watching it, it is safe to say that the movie was awesome. The visuals and sounds were amazing. The story was pretty much lacking...you could tell that they didn't really know what was going on with it enough to put too much time into it. However, the acting was terrific and the chemistry between the characters really helped to move this thing along. Solid movie for something I thought I would hate.

I watched a couple movies last night

        Race Street (1948)

A pretty good flick with George Raft and William Bendix. Raft is a nightclub owner and illegal bookie who gets caught up when a syndicate wants to take over his business and kills his best friend. It turns out he's also a friend of a cop played by Bendix. Bendix wants to help Raft but Raft wants to seek revenge in his own way. In the end it's a setup against Raft by his lover and the movie has a typical gangster style ending but it was pretty well done. The chemistry between Raft and Bendix was quite good and you can believe that they really did grow up together.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973)

I'm a fan of Robert Mitchum but honestly i've never heard of this movie until last night. This is truly the definition of a sleeper film. Mitchum plays an old and burned out weapons dealer who is facing another stretch in jail. He doesn't want to go back to jail so he tries his damndest to cut a deal with a police officer which involves him ratting out a guy he's dealing with and he even gets so desperate when the DA doesn't accept that as enough to get him free that he offers to rat on his friends who are bank robbers doing a series of robberies. Unfortunately the robbers have already been nabbed which is strange because the only one who knows about everything is Coyle's confidant. (that's all i'll say so as not to spoil too much)

Mitchum gives one of the best performances of his career. He still looks like a tough guy but he takes the edge off that tough guy image and immerses himself into the life and character of a loser in Eddie Coyle. Eddie is far too trusting and has a twisted sense of honor.

Another great thing about this film is the character of Boston itself where the movie takes place. You don't usually think of Boston as a dirty and grimy city but the movie takes place near the end of autumn and the rawness, cold and damp streets gives Boston a very grimy and gritty look to it that i've never seen before. The movie has the aesthetics of something filmed in NY at the time.

Really great movie though at points I was a little confused and the first bank robbery scene dragged on a bit too long for my tastes.

          Sanjuro

An older black and white japanese movie about a samarai who out wits a group of traitors in almost impossible odds. I think it is a sequal to another movie which was in my opinion better. The other movie I forget the title was then supposedly used to make a fist full of dollars.

The beginning was slow but I like how the lead guy somehow solves the intricate situation.

          4 Stars.

I have been on a movie kick on what was a LAZY Saturday where I watched 4 movies.

            1) Zombieland - It was better than I thought it would be. Overall 3.5 out of 5.

            2) Inglorious Basterds - I didn't realize the amount of subtitles to deal with and overall I wasn't impressed. 2 out of 5

            3) District 9 - Great movie, not the epic it had been made out to be but a great movie. 4 out of 5

            4) The Lovely Bones - OMG this is the best movie I have seen in a long, long, long time. I was able to watch the version that was submitted for Awards consideration, meaning I don't know if it was different from what was released in theatres. This was IMO Peter Jackson's finest work that had an amazing story, wonderful visuals, and was not a typical cookie cutter movie overall. Easily 6 out of 5. It was that damned good and if I had a vote it would easily walk away with Best Picture.

Just finished up The Hurt Locker.

Incredible. Easily my favorite movie of 2009.

Caught myself holding my breath a couple times during the sniper standoff.

                Amazingly tense.

                5/5.

after finally getting a chance to watch Basterds (i had made at least 3 attempts before), i watched it.

Loved the dialogue, That's what Tarantino does best.
The "Make a Deal" scene is so money, along with anything Donowitz and Aldo says. It took me a minute to figure out why Hans wanted to betray the Nazi party, but I figured it out. The subtitles actually didn't bother me.

                  4.5/5

"Well I speak the most I-talian, so Ill be your escort. Donowitz speaks the second most so hell be your I-talian cameraman. Ans Hirschberg third most, so hell be Donnys assistant."

                  "But I dont speak I-talian."

"Like I said, third best. Just keep your ****in mouth shut. In fact why dont you start practisin, right now"

I saw Book of Eli. I'd probably give it a 3/5.

Really well-acted and an amazing setting, but there were some really stupid instances and it was very preachy.

The reviews I read seemed to go after Jackson as a director more than the film itself. This was a fine piece of cinema, don't let some asshats with prejudices against Jackson dissuade you,

Avator-I waited this long to see it because I wasnt too interested in it and didnt want to buy into the hype. But I have to say I loved every second of it. I thought it was an epic and just an awesome movie from start to finish. I don't see why the plot or story has taken a lot of hits I loved it.

I just watched a DVD called "INSIDE" This was the most INTENSE/DISTURBING movie I have ever seen. (My stomach is still hurting) If you like High Tension, then IMO this is a MUST see.

Be warned this movie is not for the faint @ heart...

The Hurt Locker-Good movie but didn't think it was great as everyone made it out to be. I did enjoy it but I HATED the main character. If he ever pulled the antics he did in real life he would be in deep ****. I just hated his cocky I'm better then the team and everyone else kinda attitude.

But it was a cool movie and I love war movies.
