Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I feel like I am butting in on a fraternity here; I lurk and take notes here, I marvel at the true insights, respectful honesty, and appreciation for movies here. So, just shoo me away if I become a bother.

I have developed a habit/routine/I-don't-know-what-to-call-it of burying myself in IMDB while watching a movie. IMDB allows me to keep up on character names that I frequently struggle with (especially super hero/fantasy type movies). I love reading the trivia about the movie. Best of all, I am able to connect actor's face's with names and the other work they have done (for the non-marquee type actors).

Of course, this is perfectly kosher while lounging in my recliner, but when I am in a theater I try to be respectful of others so I miss out on being able to tap in. Man, IMDB is the greatest invention ever

BTW, just realized we have all the Encore channels on Dish right now, didn't realize it was part of the package we have. Watched Country Strong last night and actually liked it. One of those movies I would have only watched on a channel like that when really nothing else on interested me.

Not sure. I saw it on AMC, so unfortunately not only did I have to endure commercials, but I also had to hear a censored version of the film. I think I was able to fill in all of the blanks, though.

Any comic book movie recommendations on Netflix? I don't want to HAVE to watch Iron Man 2 again. Once was more than enough?

A good movie on Netflix with political intrigue?

And one final recommendations for a good tv series to watch on Netflix?

If Watchmen or X-Men: First Class in on Netflix, there ya go.

Which Star Trek is chronologically first:

Star Trek, Next Generation, Enterprise, or Voyager?

Which is the one that is the easiest to...ease newcomers into the mythos and backstory?

What I'm saying is, help a noob out

I love Kevin James, this should be worth a laugh or two.

I agree, that was a fantastic movie. I sometimes wish we'd still get that Al Pacino today but I like the stuff (for the most part) that he does now and his acting has definitely become a bit more over the top.

                In chronological order:

Enterprise, Star Trek, STNG, DS9 (DS9 starts during S5 (I think) of STNG) and Voyager which started during the tail end of DS9's run.

Personally i'd start with the original series then STNG. You can go on from there. I also recommend you watch the films with the Original Series cast first rather than the Next Gen flicks. Oh and start with Wrath of Khan as the very ST movie is boring as all hell.

Wrong thread, but I worry about this. Kevin James movies tend to be so-so and this has a similar appeal. Don't get me wrong.... I loves me some King of Queens. And now that I watched this trailer, I get to not laugh at the funny parts they've just shown, a la Mall Cop.

                  Back on track:

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Highly unique action/suspense/drama remake. Some parts could be tough to watch for select people. Overall, I thought it came together well and the character portrayals were fairly solid. I need to go back and watch the opening credits as these appeared very unique as well.

It's not really the wrong thread. We don't always just talk about movies we've seen, we talk about movies in general.

                        Dumb and Dumber.

Was expiring on Instant Stream after today, so figured I'd watch it. Yep, still very funny.

Sorry Daflyboys, I have yet to see the "Movies that aren't out yet but I may want to see" thread, so I just figured this was actually a multi-purpose movie thread, should have known I would have done something wrong.

No worries. This is the catch all movies thread. Somebody usually starts a new thread for high profile upcoming movies. Everything else pretty much falls in here.

Tower Heist. Decent caper comedy. Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy played off each other well.
