Saw Skyfall last night. I thought it was pretty good, but I was left wanting more. It seemed a little rushed to me. But I hadn't really been following the build up around it. I went it basically knowing nothing about it.

Insidious - proof that an absolutely outstanding film can have a ridiculously bad, cliche, unnecessary twist ending. Again though, other than that and a couple of below-average effects, it was brilliant. Terrifying.Minnesota Twins

Pumpkinhead, directed by the late great Stan Winston. Not a classic by any means, but far better than you'd expect from a movie called Pumpkinhead. Actually, it's far better than you'd expect from a movie where Lance Henriksen trying to sound southern, and really a pretty good movie overall. The monster Pumpkinhead itself is an outstanding bit of special effects work.
Basic plot summary:
SpoilerEd Harley and his son Billy live in a rather dry southern town, being happy, southern dog-owners. Six young "city-folk" with motorcycles wander into town, and in an accident while Ed is away, one of them runs over Billy. Since he's had some trouble with the law - in fact, he ran over a girl a month ago in a similar accident - he runs away, more-or-less dragging his girlfriend with him. The other four, being good samaritans try to help, but leave in order to get to a phone, leaving one behind. Ed comes back and is pretty PO'd at the dude, looking to find a woman who's essentially a witch to bring Billy back to life. Problem: She can't. The alternative is to summon the demon Pumpkinhead in vengeance. Bad things happen, and you can watch the movie for the rest.Comment

I liked the ending and I'm very looking foward to part 2. Insidious is one of the better horror movies I've seen the past few years...Comment

End of Watch- Pretty solid movie, the ending was a bummer only because someone spoiled it to me. But if I hadn't known already then it would've been a good ending.Comment

Skyfall - I feel like this shifted more towards the classic Bond movies and away from what Casino Royale had introduced to us. Its hammy in a classic Bond way, but also some some pretty good dramatic elements. Not sure where it falls in line, but it was great. I think it was the best major tent-pole release of the year.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Amazing Spiderman on BluRay. I sort of resisted it for the first quarter of the movie but it won me over, and the fight scenes were exceptional. Nicely done, and it's never a burden to watch Emma Stone, either.
I also finally picked up Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on the cheap on DVDI have so many favorite scenes over the years and finally wanted to just sit and watch the whole thing again.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
End of Watch.
Solid movie. It's a movie about 2 cops and their constant battle with dangers on the job. Honestly, it's a gut wrenching movie and really gives you an appreciation for cops. That job is very difficult and in South Central LA that's an understatement. Gyllenhaal and Pena play off each other very well and I think it's Pena's best performance. It also shows the strong bond that partners have for each other. America Ferrera and Anna Kendrick are also in it which is a plus. I'd say it's one of the best police movies I've seen.
David Ayer directs it and once again delivers. For those that don't know him he was the writer for Training Day, The Fast and the Furious, and Dark Blue.
