Re: What movies have you seen recently?
This Is the End
It started off great. I didn't realize how pristine the "actors playing themselves" bit would end up being such a plus for the movie. This is honestly what made it. If they have other names (and heaven forbid other personalities, even though their characters are normally shades of themselves), I don't think it carries the same tune.
Once disaster struck, it definitely started to lose some edge. I just wasn't as compelled by the actual main plot as I was for the interactions among Franco, Rogen, Hill, McBride, Robinson, and Baruchel. I wish guys like Segel, Rudd, and Ansari got more screentime. Cera got the perfect amount, and he was hilarious. There were good parts here and there, but overall it was just kind of stupid. A good stupid, but still stupid nonetheless. I think they could have written it better, or asked them to improvise less or something.
Non-Stop
Just as dsallupinyaarea said, it was solid. It had enough to separate itself from other movies that will involve themselves primarily on a plane, like say Flightplan (especially when they can have such a "similar" feel overall). The premise was interesting enough too. It's also definitely one of those movies where you wish you knew as little as possible going into it, especially when the trailer shows so much.
The last fifteen or so minutes was a change of tone in comparison to everything before it, which was a bit of a downer. It didn't really affect my viewpoint on it overall though. I thought it was great and I wasn't ever disengaged. For a film with that title, that's certainly important.
The Lego Movie
I don't think anything I say about it will be a fair enough assessment of the film itself. I hopped on over to this one immediately after Non-Stop. I wasn't initially tired, but about twenty minutes into the movie I got pretty sleepy. I don't think I ever truly fell asleep, but whenever I wanted to "rest my eyes" I really felt like I was missing out on quality parts.
The entire thing was just hilarious and light-hearted. I was smiling throughout the entire thing and laughing every thirty seconds. It was just the perfect kind of humor that kids could enjoy and adults could probably enjoy even more. In some ways I expected a little more, or just something a little different... but it lived up to what I wanted. I just wish I was capable of being alert through the entire thing.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Just got back from seeing the Lego Movie myself. Me and my brother were pretty much the only people in the theater that weren't kids or parents. Anyhow, I absolutely loved it. It was extremely witty and clever as well as having a solid purpose to it. They totally could have mailed it in and rode on the Lego name, but they produced a quality product. Solid movie.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
James Wan directed both of them (also directed Saw, Dead Silence, and Death Sentence if you've seen any of those). I'm interested to see how he brings his style into the new Fast & Furious.
I still need to see the second one. I'm guessing you were referring to Patrick Wilson when you mentioned "that one actor."Last edited by Blzer; 03-02-2014, 03:15 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Saga of Hemp Brown (1958)
Underwhelming is the word i'd use to describe this movie. The setup is excellent but then they needlessly add subplot that drags the film down turning what would've been an interesting chase/revenge Western into something that played way too safe and within the conventions of the genre.

Blue Valentine. 8/10. Probably one of the more depressing and scary movies I've seen. A 2 day window into a marriage falling apart. Sheeesh, man. Really good though and I'll watch it again. Just so damn depressing.NFL - Vikings

new Robocop movie. Pretty entertaining and much better than I expected. The visuals felt like they borrowed heavily from the new Dredd movie.Comment

Lone Ranger. Meh. Watched it with my daughter, had a couple decent scenes but for the most part, the plot seemed a little disjointed and hard to follow especially for a little kid.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment
