Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Yeah the Lego movie was one of the best experiences I've had with a movie in a long time. It really hit a spot instantly. We actually bought it On Demand. Even for a good movie, it would be a struggle to say it was worth buying because we're not big movie buffs. But it was worth every penny.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I wanted to like it more and it was intriguing in parts, but I just didn't get something:
Huge spoiler
SpoilerWhy would this kid help some stranger in the woods especially after he shows that he has a gun? Kid was portrayed as having some sense, so I didn't really get that, unless, we are supposed to conclude that since he couldn't mend his parents marriage, he was going to mend Mud's? Sort of a stretch.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Two days ago I watched Sound of My Voice, an indie film about a cult. It was really good, but so many questions were left unanswered and the ambiguity might have been overdone. Then again it was originally intended to be part of a trilogy so maybe that's why.GT: assassinK24Comment

I don't think it's a stretch to say some adventurous kids would want to help him out.Comment

Get On Up
Definitely enjoyed this movie. I thought Chadwick Bozeman did a great job in 42, be he out did himself in this film.
It also gave me a opportunity to learn more about James Brown. It was the first time I've really seen/heard his story told.Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Re: What movies have you seen recently?
One of my friends went and saw it. Loved it. He showed me the bar scene music performance. How many songs are there? That's what interests me the most honestly. Without the means to travel back in time and witness James Brown live (much less at the Apollo) I feel like a movie capturing his essence is gonna be as close as I get.

I would say there is a good 10-12 songs, maybe more than that. Bozeman had his voice, mannerisms and dance moves down pat. I thought it was very well done; I may check it out again while it's still in theaters.Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Fool me twice can't put the blame on you. Re: What movies have you seen recently?
That said, I enjoyed it. It did not hit me like Garden State did though. I felt at least one of the core storylines in Wish I Was Here didn't really connect for me. At other times, I sort of had the feeling Braff was trying a little hard to be deep or philosophical but like I said, it was still solid. One of the bigger things I felt coming out of the film though, was that maybe it would have been a bit more interesting or rewarding had it been a true sequel to Garden State. As it stands, many things feel very familiar, but they're not.
Final Word: I think the reviews were a bit harsh. It's not Garden State but if you're a fan, it may be worth giving a chance.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Separately, I saw Boyhood last night. The hipster in me feels like I should find a way to diverge from popular opinion on this film and find many ways to criticize it but man, it's special. I was fully engaged and captivated for the film's duration and it was a great one to watch amongst an audience; many more laughs than I was expecting. It just hits on all emotions.
It's actually kind of tough to put this movie into words. There's just so many thoughts and emotions being elicited. For starters, it's a weird feeling to begin a 2014 movie in 2002 - as in, filmed in '02. It's like stepping into a legitimate time capsule. Just wrapping my head around the notion that this project began when I was a senior in high school was enough to blow my mind. It hits you in weird places, gentlemen. I bet it was especially unique for my 18 year old brother, who is one year younger than the main character and basically lived the same era of youth. It was kind of like watching him grow up again.
Unfortunately, I feel like this film is bound to head into the void of "reviewed so well by so many that people will begin rebelling and tearing it down" but I'd most definitely recommend it to all. Even if you don't come out loving it, I have to believe it's going to be something you won't soon forget.Last edited by VDusen04; 08-05-2014, 03:40 PM.Comment

Contracted
It's on Netflix. It's kinda weird. Not for everyone. But I enjoyed it. It gets gross to a point of possibly losing your appetite - and I'm not usually a person that gross affects like that. But I think some of you would like it.

I can't imagine putting myself through both of those without having all of Twitter livetweeting it.
99% of the fun with those movies is Twitter. There's no reason to watch them unless it's the debut of a new one on Syfy.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn
