Our movie night over quite some time now how has become a ritual of scrolling through all the available free movies on Netflix, Amazon, and HBOgo. Then scrolling through the new release movies on Amazon; every movie, and I mean every movie we want to watch will be one you have to buy. So after a hour we give up and watch House Hunters or something similarly stupid.

Last night we were ready to finally watch Lone Survivor. It is no longer available on HBOgo and of course only available for purchase on Amazon. We were hellbent on watching a movie so for some reason we settled on We Need to Talk About Kevin. Not only are we so indecisive, but when we pull the trigger on a movie, it ends up being a piece of crap.

I so miss the days of just going to the video store. We never left the video store without something quality to watch.

Gone Girl - This is a must-watch movie IMO. One of the better ones I can remember seeing in awhile. It takes about half an hour to 40 minutes to get going, but from there out it's just an endless stream of holy **** twists and turns. My jaw dropped more than once at some of the things that happened.

I was so in to the movie that even with it being about 2.5 hours long, I was saying to myself that I don't want it to end. I could have easily watched another hour of craziness unfold.

The ending might be considered unsatisfying for some, but I thought it was great. There is a part of me that does wish it had a different outcome but that's for spoiler reasons I won't go into. It's more so just a personal "I wish character x got what they deserved" thing.

Speaking of characters, the acting was pretty damn top notch top to bottom. Ben Affleck continues to knock it out of the park and get me even more hyped for when it finally comes time to see him rock the cape and cowl, Rosamund Pike probably deserves an Oscar, and even Tyler Perry (yeah, that Tyler Perry) comes in and plays a solid role.

All that being said, this might just be one of my new favorite movies and I can't wait to watch it again, hopefully with people who have never seen it so I can see their reactions.

Rented "The Guest" last night.

It was awesome. Fun as hell. Same guy who directed "You're Next".

Soundtrack was badazz too. I highly recommend it.

I got this coming from Netflix hopefully today. Really looking forward to it.

If you had to see one movie for one particular performance, see this movie for J.K. Simmons. I can totally see why he's running away with all the Supporting Actor awards, since the guy absolutely kills it. It's like if Full Metal Jacket were set in a music academy.

I enjoyed the movie but it was a bit of a let down. I was expecting more out of it with all the hype. I liked Lone Survivor better.

Finally, the last one to watch Lone Survivor. Real life suffering themes disturb me so I have to be in just the right mood to watch; thus the reason for the delay. As I expected.

The Imitation Game.

As I said in the Oscars thread, it was pretty well done, I thought, though I learned there are probably numerous historical inaccuracies (oh, Hollywood, just stop with your jazzing everything up crap). Regardless, it was a good watch and a major component of WWII that I had no idea about.

The Other Woman. The premise was good and there were a couple funny parts but for the most part it was a letdown. Kate Upton just seemed really out of place. She's no Bo Derek either. Even my wife was letdown. She thought it was going to be funnier, but in the end it was just a mediocre chick flick in her words.

American Sniper, incredibly powerful and moving movie... When it was over there was applause and then the packed theater exited in dead silence.. Haven't seen that since Saving Private Ryan. A must see movie IMHO.

Glad I'm not the only one. Not quite sure why. Maybe because Twister was so much better, IMO. Maybe because it was way way too over the top--even for a disaster movie. Sometimes, less is more.

Did he set that all up so he could push him to excel or did he really try to get back at him for getting him kicked out of the teaching position and then the moment grew into one of his excelling a la Charlie Parker. In other words, was it all a purposeful push or did it happen to grow into one when he came back to the drum set and Simmons realized what was possibly happening?

I think whatever Fletcher does is always to push the musician but man it was hard to tell when he pulled that dick move on Neamon. That was so embarrassing but I think thats what he wanted to do to him, embarrass him just like in the Charlie Parker story. He probably expected him to come back another time not right away on the next song. Boy what a comeback too.
