Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Mabster, I have had the movie since Christmas of 2013 and I don't even know if I opened it yet. I just don't have the time to watch a whole movie. I have school everyday and most days I have work afterwards. And during the week there are way too many shows on TV.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think the understanding in this thread has been to spoiler tag things on new movies even if they are not the key point plots.

Went and added spoiler tags just to be safe.

I hope Birdman gets a bunch of awards, especially director. I need to watch it again but not sober.

It must of just come out on digital because I think I looked for it last week on Amazon Instant and it wasn't there.

Unforgiven: Would put this in the "incredibly well-made, directed, and acted, yet sort of bored throughout" category. I've never particularly liked Westerns though and can understand why many people consider this to be a classic.

Fury: Decent war movie, some great action scenes. Overall, it left a mediocre impression.

Enemy at the Gates: Same as Fury.

Adaptation: Spike Jonze is a directing genius. The concept behind the movie, the screenwriting, the acting performances from Cage, Streep, and Cooper…everything about this movie was great. Loved it.

Actually, its expected to be released on blu-ray on the 17th.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

It's still my favorite of them all. Heather Graham was hot as Felicity Shagwell.

Saw a couple of 70s classics that I've wanted to see for a long time, but never had the chance to:

Taxi Driver: Loved the dark vibe of the entire movie: the synthesis of the melancholy jazz music, the camera work from the cab as De Niro's character is driving from one seedy part of NYC to the other, and De Niro's character going off the deep end. Did a great job depicting 1970s NYC as well. 9/10.

The Deer Hunter: Sort of like two movies in one. I honestly hated the first hour since (incredibly minor spoiler)
                        Spoiler

Last two hours were great though and it has a powerful ending. 8.5/10.

Lucy: really enjoyed this. Heard comparisons to Limitless, and the general premise is similar. But then they took it up a bunch of notches. The percentages of how much of your brain has been unlocked was cool as you saw her change. Never thought about that concept and it had me thinking since I saw it.

The Judge: knew this was gonna be more low key, and it delivered. Wow. Impressive movie, very realistic. I really like Downey Jr. as an actor. Anyone whose watched this probably thought back to a relationship they may have given up on and everything they've missed because of it. Powerful to have a movie make you evaluate your own life.

The Deer Hunter: Sort of like two movies in one. I honestly hated the first hour since it basically consists of five immature, working-class guys horsing around at a wedding/farewall party before three of them depart for Vietnam. Last two hours were great though and it has a powerful ending. 8.5/10.
Never really understood all of the hoopla about Taxi Driver other than the famous line that came out of it.

As far as The Deer Hunter I think that what you're pointing out is exactly what was wanted. Here were 5 working stiffs who enjoyed their lives as it was and did not ask to be part of the horrors of Vietnam, yet there they were thrust into it. The contrast I think was supposed to be part of the message. I wasn't a big fan of that ending type, but I understand why it was done at the time.

Totally understand the whole "ordinary guys were enjoying their lives before war changed them" part, but I don't think it needed to last an hour.

I can understand how some see the ending as a little contrived and forced, but considering it was the first major film about Vietnam, I think it was appropriate.

Some movie about De La Salle football that I don't remember the name of it but Jesus from The Passion of the Christ was the star: Total ****.

Sex Tape: I thought it was actually pretty damn funny. I enjoyed it.

How to Train Your Dragon: Loooooovvvvvveeeeeedddddd it.
