    Spotlight

I enjoyed the movie. I had no idea it was out in theaters. It's about the Boston Globe investigation team called Spotlight that uncovered the Catholic priest molestation scandal.

    Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
    NCAA: SMU, UTA
    NFL: Dallas Cowboys
    NHL: Dallas Stars

Two of my all time favorites yesterday..

      Tombstone and Jackie Brown.

Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is still one of my all time favorite characters.

Unfriended....Not sure if a movie could get negative stars but this one would have. I though how bad could it be, it was the HBO new premier Saturday night movie. It was distributed by Universal. If this movie had a budget of over a $1,000 I'd be shocked. It was basically 5 kids staring at a computer screen while some dead kid that they cyberbullied came back from the grave and made them commit suicide. Rock Bottom.

Tombstone is one of the best "guy movies" of all time IMO. So many good one-liners

I think my favorite of all in this movie is:

"Have you ever seen anything like that?"

"Hell, I've never even heard of anything like that."

Really? In the what seems like growing list of bad Kevin Hart movies this one to me is the worst. Hell, I thought Soul Plane was better it.

                  To each his own though

Pretty good, especially Eazy-E and Giamatti as Jerry Heller. If you grew up during that era this movie will rekindle some good memories.

I've liked what I've seen of Hart's stand up but all his movies have looked bad. I can't be too harsh though as I have yet to see one. I do want to see straight out of Compton. Is it available to stream yet?

After Tombstone and Heat I thought Val Kilmer was unstoppable. Then he made all those forgettable movies I can't remember.

                              Rollercoaster (1977)

This is a movie that was a casualty of bad marketing as the film was made at the height of the disaster movie craze but that's not what it's all about. It's more of a thriller with a fairly good cast. The three main leads (George Segal, Richard Widmark and Timothy Bottoms) were perfect for their parts. Segal as the cynical nicotine addict trying to kick the habit and having to be involved in a situation where a bomber is trying to extract money from amusement park owners is just great. Bottoms plays "The Young Man" with a cool calm demeanor that will leave you unnerved. Richard Widmark plays the federal agent in charge of the whole thing. He plays his part with gusto and you can see the echos of the macho kind of characters he played in his heyday.

The film starts off a bit slow but it ratchets up and seeing Bottoms basically make the federal agents and Segal look bad is pretty fun to see. The only thing that dates the movie is the fact that Bottoms can set up his homemade bombs and more or less get away with it which is something that would never happen today. The film boasts some fine acting and the climax is well worth seeing.

A young Helen Hunt gets a role as Segal's daughter and this film is also Steve Guttenberg's debut as he has a walk on part delivering a message to someone.

Another thing about this movie I forgot to mention is that it was quite unique in that in all of the park scenes it was more or less shot cinema verite style with regular people doing their thing. Even the cops and bomb squad folks are real life people.

                              Solid film 3 1/2 stars.

The Revenant - beautifully shot, and brutally intense. Great flick. Didn't realize it was the same director from Birdman, which is a totally different film in pretty much every way. Great movie. DiCaprio and Hardy both killed it.
