I caught Anchorman 2 the other night.

Wow that was painful to get through.

Ronin is a heist movie with one of the best car chase scenes EVER.

Also check out Gene Hackmans 'The Heist.' Great movie and one of his best roles.

Ah man, I forgot about Ronin. Such a dark movie at times.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I saw Central Intelligence with my girlfriend's family today. It was the best comedy movie I've seen in a while. The Rock overshadowed Kevin Hart IMO. That's not to say Hart wasn't funny/didn't have his moments, but for the entire film, Rocky killed it.

His character really resonated with me, for personal reasons. The movie's plot was "deep" enough so that it wasn't a meaningless comedy flick.

          Spoiler

I loved the movie, it was a great comedy, action and feel good movie all in one. I can't praise the Rock enough for the great job he did.

My girlfriend and I didn't sleep in the dark for a week after we saw it. That's not hyperbole. It affected us on that level.

Remind me (don't really) I have to review a few films I've seen in the past month:

              - 12 Years a Slave
              - The Great Gatsby
              - Rock of Ages
              - Horrible Bosses 2
              - The Revenant
              - Swing Kids
              - American Sniper
              - Dumb and Dumber To

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Well I finally got to see two HBO political docudramas recently:

Confirmation: This was about the Clarence Thomas hearings of 1991 and hoo boy does it ever paint an unflattering picture of Washington and politics in general. Even those who weren't necessarily bad didn't come out very clean. Joe Biden had to compromise the integrity of the proceedings because he was trying to push across a civil/equal rights type of amendment though I will say I let out a cheer towards the end when he told Republican John Danforth to stick it. Speaking of Mr. Danforth, as friend and advocate for Thomas you can admire his trying to help his friend but it was clear as a bell that Thomas had at least done SOME of the things Hill accused him of. Danforth though, went so far into the mud and maligned the integrity of Anita Hill that it was almost a caricature of the worst aspects of politicians that you can think of.

The film truly belonged to Kerry Washington who captured the essence and bearing of Ms. Hill to the point that she was just about indistinguishable from the real person. Washington had everything down pat from the voice to the mannerisms. She was a strong point in a docudrama that was pretty rote as it went for a media heavy telling of the story using a ton of archival news footage to augment the story. This would do well for those who were too young or didn't live through the sordid goings on of that time but for those who remember those hearings it provides little insight though I will say, seeing the sausage being made in the character assassination of a person was quite intriguing. This gets a recommendation from me.

All The Way: Bryan Cranston NAILED IT! He was perfect as LBJ and the film was faithful and stuck to the truth for the most part except for the MLK acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize which actually happened AFTER the election. Nonetheless this was such a well written and beautiful tribute to what LBJ and MLK started to work upon for the betterment of the nation. Everyone in the cast was exceptional and great recognition should be given to Bradley Whitford who looked and sounded EXACTLY like Hubert Humphrey. It was almost as if Johnson and Humphrey crawled out of their graves and gave their performances in this film. This movie showed the one thing that I always point out about Johnson whenever i'm afforded the opportunity to talk about him. That is, Lyndon Johnson was a complicated SOB but he wanted to leave this world better than it was when he was alive. The man was a master manipulator and probably the most voracious political animal to ever set foot in the oval office. If he hadn't been dragged into the quagmire that was Vietnam he would unanimously be claimed in the top 5 of American presidents ever. As it is, his Vietnam adventure makes him a mixed bag and drags him to an aggregate score of 13th best president of all time. Anyways, I give this film my highest recommendation. Cranston and Co. are FANTASTIC.

I think you're using a movie review as a partly veiled attempt to bring up political opinion here which is a TOS violation here. HBO is a known conveyor of liberal agenda at times, so nothing is really clear as a bell. Katie Couric's so-call documentary abilities has shown us that recently.

There was no political agenda involved. I was commenting through the context within the film itself. I will readily acknowledge that the film painted the participants in rather broad strokes but the majority of the film was taking the actual records both public and private and reading them off verbatim.

I'm sorry if you took my review in a purely political context and if a mod wants me to modify said review of this movie I will.

Cranston is genius and might even get the Power Rangers reboot to an Oscar nom.....(I mean it could happen).

Yeah, it's amazing how the guy that was known for playing Malcolm's dad in Malcolm in the Middle is now one of the most highly sought after actors of today. It just goes to prove that despite the creative rut Hollywood finds itself in that stars can still develop through hard work and determination.

Didn't say purely... which is why I said 'partly'. I'll take a look at it myself as I became very interested in the event itself at the time since it brought up more than political ramifications.

As far as Cranston, it's incredible to see the relatively subdued acting history he had prior to Malcolm, other than playing Tim Whatley in Seinfeld. This little clip interview shows a part of why he's so good:

Watched The Martian. My family really enjoyed it. Matt Damon was excellent. Great story, very well made movie.

Wife and I watched Sinister 2 last night....meh below average sequel to a great first film. Disappointed to say the least. The first one was really good and Ethan Hawke was outstanding in it. This was a cheap follow up.

Ok so we went and saw The Shallows yesterday.

Decent movie. Not great, not bad. A fast paced, tense shark drama. Some crazy moments for sure. Some great cinematography as well. Outstanding CGI of the Great White killer in this film. Looked very real.

If your looking for a fast paced (and clocking in at just under 90 minutes too) action/suspense shark movie I can say go see it. Of course you have to suspend some belief. And the lead actress Blake Lively is drop dead hot. Super hot in fact. Worth the price of the ticket alone.
