    The Wizard

Just watched this classic with my kids. They hadn't seen it before. Loved this movie when I was young. It's cheesy but got to admit it still held up for me after all these years. My kids loved it and now want to play old school NES games lol. Good thing I still have an emulator I installed on my PC years ago with a bunch of games. But just a fun 80's movie with a few solid songs as well. I forgot how much I liked the song Send Me an Angel.

Have to admit I saw Baby Driver again with my brother and niece and appreciated it more. I kind of went with the flow of having seen it while they were watching it for the first time and wasn't bogged down by the story so much. This is a movie with definite replay value. Solid B+.

Yeah, this is one of the few times I walked out and was ready to walk right back in and watch it immediately. I might have to go again this week(end).

Older movie, caught it on MGM, Battle of Britain. The aerial cinematography work done is top notch.

Yeah, I've seen it. Love story is meh, but the air work is great. Only problem is the Brits use all Spitfires and in reality it was mostly Hurricanes. There were very few Hurricanes remaking when they made the film, since Hurricanes were primarily made of wood.

Sand Castles (on Netflix). Subpar dialogue and editing. Just did not flow and a very meager ending. Disappointed.

                    Awesome film.

I seem to always watch '1776' every Fourth and did again this year. Such a good musical.

                      Trainspotting 2

I kinda gambled on this blu ray, as I do love the first film and, you know, sequels (for the most part).

However, I think they did a very good job with this story, and you can really see how far Boyle's come with his shot selection and writing. The cast were wonderful of course.

I do like the tone of this one...the first one worked perfectly, but this one doesn't get as dark and is a bit more fun. It's still pretty poignant here and there (Begbie and his son share a great scene towards the end), and I really enjoyed the ride.

Recommended for fans....at least for a Rent (pun intended )

Man, it has been too long since I've watched this. I guess this is the moment where Tarantino "grows up" as his production values alone take several jumps over over his previous works as everything just oozes together with his "style."

The action scenes are superb. All the genre callbacks and homages are nice if a bit jarring at times. Uma is amazing.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I watched a pretty good B film from Columbia the other day. Normally I wouldn't talk much about movies like that on here but this film has some pedigree to it. It was the feature film debut of Telly Savalas (with hair no less! I can see why he went completely bald though. He was only pushing 40 but looked 10-15 years older) and the film debut of Gene Hackman in a non speaking role. The movie is also the 4th credited role of Jerry Orbach's career.

Anywho, the film is called Mad Dog Coll (1961) which is a very fictionalized biography of the youthful crime boss who challenged Dutch Schultz. The role was played by character actor John Davis Chandler (in his only starring role) and boy was he ever ahead of his time! He gives an intense and eminently watchable performance. It's a shame that Chandler had such a nasally voice as I think he had the chops to be a feature actor. The plot is pretty ho hum but the acting throughout the film is uniformly very good so check it out if you can. Oh I forgot to mention Vincent Gardenia plays Dutch Schultz in this as well. So like I said, it may be a B flick but it's got some heft to it.

Part one was outstanding. Part 2 way too slow and self indulgent.

To me his finest film will always be his first in Reservoir Dogs.

But Kill Bill ranks up there.

My favorite along with Dogs is Inglorious Bastards. What a flick.
