    Spoiler

    Fury - 2014
    Hacksaw ridge - 2016
    Allied - 2016
    The 12th man - 2017

Overlord - 2018 and zombies never made it into my ww2 history books

Maybe I was just spoiled as a kid when there were a list of movies like midway, Tora tora tora, sink the bismark, patton, etc that were already old by the time I got to watch them, but it doesnt seem like many come out anymore.

I was just messing around anyway (especially with Overlord). I'm surprised I didn't say Inglourious Basterds as well haha.

While you're not wrong, sometimes there are "so many stories you can tell" about something. Some are trying to put their own twist on something or completely fictionalize what they're doing. I like them too, but one a year works for me.

I'm with you on Overlord ... didn't know what it was going in and was disappointed once yet another zombie feature shows up ... so tired.

But you can't expect 2 WWII movies every year at this juncture in time.

The 12th Man was cringe-watching worthy ... if it's even half that accurate ...man.

Inglorious basterds 100% should have made that list. You cant have a list of ww2 movies without Brad Pitt's lieutenant Raine. The hero of the war.

            Rise of Skywalker

Oh my. I feel like I was in a mixed state of eye-rolling and genuine entertaining enjoyment. If you start thinking about this movie with any kind of depth you will drop out of the bottom because it has problems around every corner. Still, it's a fun ride without the brain going. It is a Star Wars movie after all.

Watched The Wedding Singer for the umteenth time last night. No matter how many times I see it I laugh at all the same stuff as if I'm seeing it for the very first time.

My absolute favorite part is right at the start of the film at the wedding reception. It shows 3 clips of the crazy guy dancing with the old lady and starts stripping his clothes off. It gets me every single time.

                Ford v. Ferrari

                8/10

This is probably the second best racing movie that i've ever seen, behind only Rush.

Bale and Damon both did great jobs and the racing scenes were awesome.

The sound effects were next level. You could really hear the difference between the Ferrari V12s and the Ford V8s, for example.

Bale was amazing. Loved the race scenes and Damon was pretty good too.

Midway .... always amazed what these guys faced. The first person flight camera angles were incredible. I think Woody Harrelson was miscast here though.

                        Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker

I went in with fairly low expectations and really enjoyed it. However, it's certainly not without issues.

It felt a bit compressed to me...too much to tell and not enough time to tell/show it, or let it breathe properly. It could do with another 15-30 minutes. In that time I'd like to see more character time, especially for Finn and Janna. I feel like Finn didn't get much arc, but I was good with Rey, Poe and Ren. Hell even 3PO acquitted better here than the last several films.

Lots of very good moments and a few not so good mixed in, but overall I was entertained and I was moved, so it works for me. If this got an extended cut it would rate 3rd or 4th for me in SW films.

Must say, I was a bit underwhelmed with this.
Basically two soldiers going for a walk the entire movie.

1917 - 9/10. Loved it, and can't wait to watch it again. It was different than what I expected, but still great. The way it was shot you feel like you're there. Cinematography was top notch.

Uncut Gems - 6/10. I was hyped for this after seeing reviews and seeing it was made by the Safie Brothers (who did Good Time), but this one just didn't quite do it for me.

Looking forward to: The Gentlemen, The King's Man, No Time to Die.

                              The Irishman

Pesci deserves a supporting Oscar for this. He was the very best thing about what was a decent mobster movie.

                              Best picture? Oh heck no.

                              About 45 minutes too long.

A solid movie but nothing as memorable as Goodfellas and Casino. Not in those movies league.

I can understand why "1917" is met with mixed reviews. It reminded me of "Saving Private Ryan" and "Fury" condensed into a unique story. Sure, it's a couple of guys. They're conversing. And it's maybe not the most compelling story. BUT, I think you have to watch it through the lens of "what if this was me and my best friend put in this scenario"... My wife and I took our 14 year old daughter to see it. 4 years ago she lost her big brother other (and our oldest son) to a car wreck. She was very emotional at the end because of the power of that story and bond. I think it was good for her to see it to allow a lot of those feelings to shine. I got choked up as I looked over at her wiping tears away... I knew fully what that moment meant.
