What movies have you seen recently?

You should really check out Parasite. It has quite a lot of layers to it.

I saw all Best Picture nominees (and all but Little Women before the list even came out), and I as well thought 1917 was going to win (though I personally wanted Jojo Rabbit to win). I also think 1917 deserved Best Director. HOWEVER, once Parasite won Best Director and already had a screenplay win, you knew if anything else won Best Picture that would just be weird.

I will be watching 1917 again soon, but I’m sitting here now thinking how much merit I would give it for its story and everything else had it not done the one-shot effect. I think that’s a huge selling point to it and its immersion and I think this was the right story for it, but remove it and do you have something that stacks up against the rest? Not sure. Basically, I don’t think it deserved a Best Screenplay nomination. I don’t know where that came from.

On a side note, Greta Gerwig should’ve gotten a Best Director nomination for Little Women. I could have easily crossed Todd Phillips off that list in her place. Don’t know how she got one for Lady Bird and not this, even on a comparative scale to the films around them in their respective years.

I also just watched '1917' and enjoyed it a lot. I cared about the two main characters and was invested with what happened to each of them.

The style of the film was just brilliant and engaging, but don't go into it looking for slam-bang war action movie. It's much more of a wartime drama, with an occasional punctuation of action.

I also rented 'Midway' earlier this week and I enjoyed that as well, though touching on Pearl, the Doolittle raid and the Battle of the Coral Sea and Midway was a bit too expansive to cover effectively in one movie.

1917 I didn't like it. It's nice Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket or Pearl Harbor that's for sure

What can you say about Joaquin Phoenix. Dude us just a great actor. Thought the movie was really well done and quite entertaining. Really made you feel for him and his situation.

            Star Wars Rise of Skywalker

My 2nd viewing, 1st at home. I liked it better the 2nd time around but still would love an extended edition. That beginning sequence has potential for coolness but you're too WTF?? is going on?? They don't even tell you he's at Mustafar busting up Vader's temple. A few words in the crawl would have even helped the beginning of the film, or a 'MUSTAFAR' title when they show the planet. Something!

Anyway, by the time it winds down it still gets me in the feels a bit. I applaud Driver especially and also Ridley for fine performances throughout and I love their characters. Also enjoyed more Finn/Poe rapport that we got all too little of previously.

I actually had never seen this movie. Some people at work were joking around about it. “No Touchey”...

Definitely found it really funny. Loved Patrick Warburton’s character in it.

                On a Charlize kick:

Bombshell was alright, I already watched The Loudest Voice in the Room so it was just a condensed version of that. The thing that stuck out is Nicole Kidman is Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie is Margot Robbie but Charlize is ****ing Megyn Kelly. Uncanny.

Tully though, love love loved it. She’s too good.

                    Soooooo funny.

Everyone should fit a hilarious film into their viewing during such times. Good for the soul.

Richard Jewell. Very serviceable drama. Good performances all around, but especially by the lead, Paul Walter Hauser. Nice depiction of the press as well, which is no surprise coming from Clint. Worth the watch.

Once we saw Daniel Craig in the preview we had to watch it. A fun, quirky, enjoyable and entertaining movie. Nothing really overly fantastic about it, but it was fun to watch. Craig slipping in and out of rural and English accents was a fun game to play throughout. Channing Tatum and Adam Driver were both good. Honestly it was a really good cast and we were googling a handful of actors throughout to put names to faces that we recognized.

That's a very entertaining watch...that gal who played Channing's hot sister was great and a really fun character.

Oh, nice to find a fellow movie thread here. I've been watching a movie a day for the past three years (give or take) and I'm at around 800. Recently watched:

                                Big Fish

                                Kurosawa's High and Low

                                Birds of Prey (wow. terrible)
                                Star Wars Episode IV
Before We Go (directorial debut of Chris Evans. Romantic, it was ok).
                                My Neighbor Totoro
Sonic The Hedgehog (actually pleased! They survived a media nightmare)
                                Woody Allen's Manhattan.
