The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Currently on Hulu..... saw this in the theater when it first came out. Just happened across it on Hulu and needed something mindless playing in the background while doing something else.
When you think about it, it's sort of like an early version of Kingsman meets The Avengers. It was really a pretty ambitious attempt at an unlikely ensemble cast that took on yet another weak villain, unfortunately. However, there were some pretty good portrayals if you look at each character with my favorite being Nemo. The actor portraying Nemo doesn't seem to have done much else outside of Bollywood, though I could be mistaken. Additionally, it was a pretty cool representation of his fantasy vehicle, the Nautilus, that had some great details to it. It was hard to buy that it would fit in the streets of Venice, but this movie calls for suspending a great deal of belief. Overall it's just a good popcorn movie with some hokey parts.Comment

I know a lot of people don't like The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, but to me it was just fully entertaining.
I finally saw Skyscraper today. It's the worst The Rock movie that I've ever seen. His movies aren't generally going to be timeless classics, but I always find them fun and entertaining. I was playing on my phone for half of this one though.Comment

Underwater Don't waste one second of your time. 1/2 star. Especially when it got to that point where it went over the top. Could argue that it's yet another Hollywood venture to show the "strong woman" and the incompetent male character. Then ending speech was quite forgetful.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Decided that since I literally have all day, I'll just watch Sound of Music.
Hadn't seen the full movie in almost 20 years I'd guess. Movies like this get helped by the fact that they can also be HD remastered so it looks even better.
I never knew the actor who played the captain was actually born in Toronto. Also saw that most people in that movie are still alive. The youngest of course is in her 60s as well.
Besides the notable songs from it, the parts I'll always remember is the ending. Sneaking out of the country after their performance and escaping to Switzerland simply by crossing the border over the mountains.Comment

Frozen 2
I saw this a while back and never posted impressions on it, but I'm just going to dance around a couple of points here.
I am trying to decide why I don't really like the first Frozen film much (the first half hour is good, but I don't like the rest), yet I like Frozen 2 quite a bit (despite it has a ton of characterization issues and I can think of a lot better ways to rewrite the same story). Simply, I think it boils down to this: in Frozen, I don't like our main character Elsa and I think she comes off as a tremendous bitch; in Frozen 2, I absolutely adore Elsa and think she has the most redeemable storyline of any character in either film's plot.
One final thing worth mentioning is that they kept throwing the song "Into the Unknown" in our faces, and it was even nominated for an Oscar. Lyrically, melodically, and contextually, it's an okay song all told (and anything worth shaking "Let It Go" out of our heads, which this film does a good job at poking fun at the first film in a couple of ways) and was the Oscar nominee... but man, I'm sure glad I've discovered the song "Show Yourself" while watching this movie. I think it is far, far superior to "Into the Unknown" in all three categories, and would have loved to see this be nominated for an Oscar in the other's place. I've watched that scene on YouTube now over a dozen times. It is lovely.
Now, as all Disney side characters seem to be that are there for the kiddos and merchandising (we're talking your Dory's, Mater's, and another character I shall not mention without being torched), Frozen has Olaf. Personally, I wish they'd all just die. I wish Finding Dory was about Dory being lost in the beginning of the film and they never find her, I wished Mater fell out of that helicopter at the end of Cars, and I wish Olaf would just melt and not come back. Personally, I liked him more in this movie than the previous one, but less is much more for me.
Anyway, Frozen is by and large the better film. Characters are well thought out, the princess aspect was strong, and it was tightly woven Frozen 2 had a long time to come up with a gem and felt a little forced and rushed in places. Yet, I do prefer the latter as a film in terms of watchability and likability, and I do like the forest environment they animated out. Since I blind-bought the first film, I will complete it with the second one when it knocks down in price at some point.
Stuber
Going to be super brief, but I thought this was funny as hell. The final act veered off quite a bit and it had an abrupt feel of an ending, but the rest was pretty solid. I think it all came in the dialogue and acting, though. Story line was whatever, and the movie was aware of that. I loved the chemistry between Nanjiani and Bautista.Last edited by Blzer; 04-23-2020, 01:24 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Agree on Show Yourself being the superior song from Frozen 2 though.
SpoilerElsa, the magical sorceress with power over ice, who is even more powerful than in the first movie...she gets...Frozen...I mean...really? lolComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
It's interesting how perspective of one film can impact the perspective of another. I'm the exact opposite. The first Frozen is one of my favorite Disney films, and yet I could do without ever seeing Frozen 2 again.

But as I said, I think the biggest difference for me that I don't like from the first Frozen that I like from the second is the main character. If I don't like the main character, I don't know how I can enjoy the movie enough or cheer for what she's about haha.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Finally watched Cleopatra, though it probably wasn't too smart to start it at 10pm last night but I'm off, so...lol.
Really enjoyed it...Taylor was just resplendent in this, I mean good acting yes, but she looked flat out amazing.
I thought it was cool how the first half kind of dealt with her and Cesar, and the second half Antony, and how love can make you crazy LOL.
This film was so epic in scope, right up there with Ten Commandments for sheer spectacle.GO 'HAWKS!

Inception
This is still incredible from top to bottom. The overlapping scenes between layers in the middle (rotating hotel hallaway) is still amazing. Great ride and great film. Definitely one of the high-points to look back on for the past decade.

Let's hope that Tenet is another Inception-type. Better still, let's hope we get to witness that for ourselves come July!Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Office Space for the I don't know how many times. What I didn't realize is that it was based off a small cartoon from Mike Judge, creator of "Beavis and Butt-head" and co-creator "King of the Hill". I think the cartoon was slated for SNL and was entitled, Milton, who is Stephen Root's character --- the red stapler guy. Fun re-watch.Comment
