Beverly Hills Cop 1 - Crazy to me that Eddie Murphy was like 22 when he made this movie. His screen presence was off the charts. Movie stands on its own really well, with great performances all around, particularly the cop duo assigned to follow him around. The soundtrack to this is an all time classic.

Beverly Hills Cop 2 - This was made 3 years later, but it feels like it was more like 10. Movie overall feels way more over the top and cartoony than the first, but also more modern and stylish. Could have easily fallen flat as a sequel, veering into self parody, but the comedy lines are just good enough to keep it going. Plus the director (Tony Scott) keeps the pace moving, making it hard to feel like it's dragging. This is probably the height of Murphy's mainstream stardom, and the first time we see him in that classic Detroit Lions jacket.

I was going to watch the 3rd to see them all consecutively in one sitting, but after watching the trailer and reading the reviews I thought why not just end it on a high note lol.

3 is worth it for some of the comedy bits imho.

Yeah, 3 was pretty funny I can’t even front.

Still surprised at Eddie only being 22 when he did the first one because he did not look 22 at all. He looked more like 32 lol. I guess that was the 80s for you especially with some of the styles back then where it made you look older than you what you actually were.

And yet, now he's 62 years old and doesn't look a day over 52!

If you were thinking about it but weren't sure, or if it wasn't on your radar... go watch Iron Claw.

My obvious wrestling bias will always give this a 10/10.

However, my wife, with no wrestling bias gave this a 10/10 as well.

Just the perfect showing of the tragic story of the Von Erich family.

Mulan is one of my favorite legends/stories, and I just watched two of the 2020 movies that came out of China (including Disney's live action remake there were a total of 5 Mulan movies made that year)

                Mulan Legend - 5.5/10
I'm probably being generous to this one because I like the story of Mulan, and this one carries a unique take on the story. In this one Mulan is already a famous general when we meet her, and the story revolves around her mission to save a princess. It's a great setup, but the B movie budget is very clear in acting, sets, camera, and most importantly...the writers.

                Matchless Mulan - 8/10
I'm definitely being generous with the score, but I really did enjoy it. It reminded me a bit of 2009's Mulan: Rise of a Warrior. Gritty with some good fight scenes and she is an impressive character throughout. It clocks just under 90 minutes of run time though, and it would have greatly benefited from another half hour to really expand on some the story components.

Of the versions that I have seen then this is how I would rank them with a clear separation between #4 & #5:

                1 - Mulan: Rise of a Warrior
                2 - Mulan (Disney's animated original)
                3 - Matchless Mulan
                4 - Mulan (Disney's live action)
                5 - Matchless Mulan

Five Nights at Freddy - 8 out of 10. Way better than I thought it would be.

The Exorcist: Believer - 6 out of 10.

Pet Sematary Bloodlines - 7 out of 10.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I shall leave short impressions for a few movies that I saw:

                    Five Nights at Freddy's

I have not played the games and avoided the trailers to see if this could bring about fear of the unknown.

In the end, it was very incompetently made despite some efforts to bring about a story that one can connect to. Everything was very telegraphed, and if they were going for horror they completely whiffed. Even still, a sequel is inevitable and I will be checking it out.

                    A Haunting in Venice

Branagh brings a third film to Agatha Christie's Poirot franchise, and unlike Freddy's this was absolutely competently made. Yet, all three of these films don't do enough to get me on the side of characters. They are pieces on a game board, and once the incident occurs it becomes a movie built upon interrogating suspects. I like trying to figure it out, but the movie hides enough things to not let you know about it completely. I tried hard to guess some aspects and got many things right, except for the most important whodunit portion. All of them were one-and-done watches though, and they'd be hard to watch again (unlike, say, Knives Out and Glass Onion).

                    Godzilla Minus One

Wow. I cannot believe this was made for $15 million. I mean, I actually cannot believe it. There is no way it was only made for that little!

The greatest compliment I can give this movie is if you take out Godzilla, it is still a great narrative with rich characters I was invested in. Adding in the menace that Godzilla was, and you have yourself a fantastic film altogether. I am one who was okay with Gareth Edwards hiding Godzilla as many times as he did in the 2014 film, but I think the minimalistic thing I liked about this one was that he was only fighting humans and buildings, not other monsters. Combined with the U.S. films and the show Monarch, I must say that this is a great time to be a Godzilla fan!

                          *Slight spoilers ahead*

                          Saltburn

I never thought I would see male masturbation glorified, cunnilingus during menstruation, or a full frontal of a male dancing merrily in a movie, much less all of these in the same movie.

That said, the movie wasn't bad at all. There were just some bizarre scenes that made me kind of tilt my head in amazement.

Great action scenes but the plots are all the same lol. Optimus Prime gets wrecked in a fight and no one can find him until someone finds him and he sends out a call for the autobots. Once they’re all assembled they’re basically betrayed by humans until they find a human who has a decent heart (Marky Mark, Anthony Ramos, etc…). All hope is lost until they find a loophole and save the world. Rinse, repeat [emoji23]

In the fictional universe of 'You (2018),' viewers are immersed in a dark portrayal of serial killers and stalkers, where the plot weaves through an intricate web of suspense and danger. Alongside its compelling storyline, the film features a tapestry of alluring adult scenes that heighten the intrigue and complexity of its characters' relationships and motivations.
