Have you tried other ROMs? They pretty much resolve battery issues, for the most part.

I would highly recommend it. However, definitely read up on it. Fully understand the steps, it's not that difficult to me now, but it was definitely difficult the first time around.

BACK-UP! I had the Vibrant and when I started messing with it, I forgot to back-up and lost all my apps and data. I only had free apps but just the fact that it was all gone was disheartening. All my progress on Angry Birds, etc. I ended up getting a new phone because of it!

How is that working out? It is a little bit overwhelming at first. I found one I loved, and then the ICS ones came out, lol. Now, I don't dare to go back to GB.

Took a quick glance at the XDA forums on rooting and my head is SWIMMING. Gonna have to take some time to really sit down and try to understand what the heck I'm looking at.

Yeah, it is deep in there. I have never rooted an Android device, that said. The Galaxy Nexus is only my second android phone. I still have my old Driod X, so I may fool around with that and try to root that, to get a better understanding of it.

Just so that I'm grasping this correctly: when you say back-up, do you mean back-up right after I root the phone? From what I read, it doesn't seem possible to backup prior to rooting, so just want to make sure I'm understanding what you mean.

After root, yes. When you achieve root, you won't lose anything. You will just 'unlock' the phone.

After you are successfully rooted, download Titanium Back-up. It will ask for Superuser rights, and if you rooted correctly, it will work. That will back up all your apps+data, etc.

Also, before you 'flash' a new ROM, you do a nandroid back-up. Which basically means you will back up the actual stock rom, this will be done in the boot screen however, in CWM or 4EXT recovery.

Yes, that's right. Root and then use something like Titanium to back everything up.

Then you're free to change roms and then restore your backup to re-populate all your apps and stuff.

The actual rooting may be the most difficult part.

When I had the Vibrant, where I messed up was I didn't wipe data going from one Rom to another, and I semi-bricked my phone. However, there was a work-around.

To be honest, after getting interested in this stuff, I won't buy another phone without seeing the type of support it has from developers.
