The Panny is the way to go if you are going to get a Plasma.

Yeah panny are at the top, but not all models, at this point, I don't think you can go wrong with either Panny/Samsung/LG, to me they all look great.

my advice would be to go to best buy and just check them out first see what you think looks best.

I did. The plasma picture just seemed more "real" to me.

That is terrible advice. Best Buy, Wal Mart ect ect make the TVs they make the most money off of look better then something they don't. Don't make your choice based on what the picture looks like in store.

I'm not saying make your decision solely on what you see in the store, but I'm the kind of person that likes to physically see things and check them out first if I'm buying online. I went to Sears and they had all the LCD's blazing bright, while the plasmas had clearly been tuned down. Then I went to Best Buy and got to see what the Panny S1's can REALLY do. Also I kept reading and hearing all the "you don't need 1080p on a 42 inch" stuff, but when I checked them both out in person I could see a difference between the two, it was slight, but enough that it would have bothered me.

The need for 1080P on a 42 inch TV depends on 2 things: viewing distance and if it's doubling as a computer monitor. Extra resolution will help in either case. True 1080P sources should also look slighly better. Just a question of is it a $100-250 difference for the proposed buyer.

I get what you're saying but I'd still want to see a tv in person. I wouldn't make my decision based soley on the specs sheet. We all know manufacture's inflate things, especially contrast ratio.

While not ideal, the tv showroom is still better than a blind buy. Especially if you realize that they "stack the deck" for certain brands.

there a few for the PS3, but if you own a PS3 then 1080p would be great for watching blu-ray movies in full 1080p.

That's why I got my plasma in 1080p.

Yes, the main reason I am getting 1080p is for the ps3 and blu ray.
