The retina display is cool and all, but honestly on my iPad 2 I don't really ever find myself going "Man, this text looks like crap"...

Obviously the resolution will make it better, but it's not like the iPad 2 was horrible.

I totally agree, at least I have to tell myself that to avoid tech envy since my roommate pulled the trigger on a 16GB WiFi one last night. Next Friday I'll put them to the side by side test and see for myself what all the fuss is about, and most likely cry afterward at the difference.

Verizon will support Mobile Hotspot on the new iPad, AT&T still working on it

It's no secret that the new iPad will offer the ability to share a data connection with other devices through a mobile hotspot, but the feature doesn't do any good if your wireless network doesn't offer it. Representatives from Verizon and AT&T sent tweets this morning that raised more questions than they answered, leaving us concerned that both companies had decided not to allow the hotspot capability at all. After reaching out to the carriers, however, we're able to shed some light on the subject: Verizon killed the rumor, telling us it has "every intention of supporting Mobile Hotspot on the new iPad," while AT&T stated that it is "working with Apple to enable this feature in the future, but we currently do not offer it."

In other words, Verizon has everything settled and ready to go when the first iPad shipments arrive next week, while AT&T and Apple are supposedly still at the negotiation table. Are the two companies trying to hash out some kind of revenue sharing deal as we sit idly by, yearning for the coveted option to magically appear? Whatever the reason, AT&T's answer isn't a full-out no -- but it's not a yes, either.

Update: In regards to pricing, Verizon also stated: "All of our tablet data plans include Mobile Hotspot so customers do not have to pay an additional fee for the service on tablets."

Yeah, I just have to control myself a bit. I'd rather get one of the Air or MBP (post refresh, whenever that is), so that helps me control the impulse buying.

Apple pumps these things out way too quickly. I thought the same thing about the iPods. You buy one and then a few months later, the next generation is released.

Mine shipped late last night.. about 12:30 ish.. Through FedEx.. Haven't seen a FedEx truck in years.. UPS, USPS, and DHL 1 time are all I've seen the last few years..

Yeah, I just have to control myself a bit. I'd rather get one of the Air or MBP (post refresh, whenever that is), so that helps me control the impulse buying.

My next tech buy will be when I reup with Sprint, iPhone 5 or Galaxy Nexus.

Not to take this off topic, but I love my Galaxy Nexus...been a dream to use since launch

I've been having trouble figuring out what Apple could do for iPad 4 (besides faster processor)....not much technical stuff they could really do (you don't need double retina display, for instance)....

Any thoughts on what else could get updated next round?

I wish they would add support for an external hard drive and the ability to import pictures from a digital camera. Other then that is has almost everything else.

I've been having trouble figuring out what Apple could do for iPad 4 (besides faster processor)....not much technical stuff they could really do (you don't need double retina display, for instance)....

I think the next step for Apple is a smaller screen iPad. They've been testing out smaller screens and I wouldn't be surprised to see a 7 inch iPad for the Holiday season (it would be cheaper but probably not have all the same specs/features as the iPad 3).
