Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
Show is awesome so far! I know nothing about this show and the book so everything is new to me and really exciting
As far as the nudity on the show, its very tame. Why be on HBO if you can't get naked? I think most hour HBO shows will have cussing/nudity/violence and will have extreme levels of it or else why need to be on HBO?Comment

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
I know. Rome was had way more. I dont think there was a woman on Rome who wasnt naked at one point in the series. Every person who watches an HBO show should EXPECT nudity. The Wire, Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Entourage, Treme, True Blood all have tons of nudity.
I have female friends who complained about the nudity in Boardwalk but love True Blood and I called them on that BS. If its on HBO expect them to push the envelope.Comment

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
I've read the first book and I liked last night's episode. Seemed like they were able to capture everything without leaving out too much. I will say this: the first episode is probably going to be the slowest of them all. Knowing what happens in the books I figured this was going to be the case and hope people weren't turned off by it. If you liked the first episode, I think you're going to love the rest.
One thing is the series could be hard to follow if you don't pay close attention to names. Game of Thrones introduces a lot of characters to you, and it is constantly happening. It is easier to keep track of in the book, but I could see how experiencing Game of Thrones for the first time through HBO would be confusing.Lux y VeritasComment

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
Yeah, I've didn't read the books and really haven't watched any previews or behind the scenes shows either. I intentionality left myself "in the dark" so I'd be completely surprised. Also, I've watched a ton of shows on HBO. The Sopranos, The Wire & Oz are all up there with my all time favorites. I just don't recall those shows or Boardwalk Empire or True Blood going all out with nudity & multiple sex scenes in their respective premieres. Not that it's that big of a complaint from me; I understand it comes with the territory but, I can see how some people would be turned off by it. Personally, I'd enjoy the show just as much if there was no nudity at all, as it isn't needed to tell a good story, IMO.
edit: I didn't see Rome
To your point about the Sopranos and True Blood not having nudity and multiple sex scenes in their premieres, I actually would be more angry at those shows than I would be at GOT. Again assuming that I have a big issue with nudity, I would be pissed if I watched the first 4 episodes of True Blood, got hooked on the show and then episode 5 they have Eric naked with a woman in his dungeon, a Sookie and Bill sex scene and a Jason sex scene. I would be furious because that wasnt the type of show that I thought it was.
FYI, True Blood had plenty of nudity in its pilot episode. I recall a scene with Jason and a woman having sex while she was tied up.Comment

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
As a long time fan of the books...Have to say I was very happy with the 1st episode last night. The production quality was very high, I guess I should of guessed that with HBO but till I saw an episode was holding my breath.
The opening scene was great, even though it differed slightly from the book, it captured its intensity. Had no idea how they would depict the Walkers...yet they nailed it.
All in all, am shocked by how well all the characters have come to life and the acting was top notch. Really liked all the kids, Arya is gonna be awesome. Snow is perfect.
My wife who can't stand fantasy, but loves old english monarchy stuff (history buff) absolutely loved it. Which is shocking to me, and I think proves to me that this series will reach past the book audience. I think that will speak upon its quality.
For those who have not read the books....the fantasy / sci side of the story is truly minimal. What makes the story great is the characters, the characterization, the politics, the feuds, & the story telling of Martin. I hope, its is my hope, the future episodes do not deviate from that path in telling this story. My hope is that in an effort to keep that intensity flowing from episode to episode, they do not butcher what makes A Song of Ice and Fire so great. If the first episode is any indication, they will do it justice!
BRING ON BOOK 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I drink to make other people interesting.Comment

Great first show. I think this series could go down as the best of HBO's very good collection of series. The source material is fantastic. The production quality appears to be top notch, motion picture worthy really.
It is amazing how good some these series are on Starz, Showtime, and HBO.
Spartacus, Borgias, Game Of Thrones, and Camelot....bring it on!Comment

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
in regards to Winter is Coming, the seasons in Westeros are not like the real world. They don't have constant cycles. But as was said, thats just one aspect of it.
I'm actually quite torn about this show, and it has nothing to do WITH the show. I love the show and how its really staying close to the source material, even so to include passages from the book, (e.g. Jaime Lannister "The things i do for love")
now what annoys me is how much Sword of Truth, aka "Legend of the Seeker" got bastardized by disney. This is what that should have been. But this is straying off topic.
BTW some of the theories put forth in the thread by people who haven't read the books make me chuckle. CAn't wait for the reactions to some stuff in future episodes, especially a certain scene later on down the line.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
We watched the first episode last night and what a great way to start. The acting, atmosphere, sets, etc. are very well done.
I have a question.
SpoilerWhat happened to the boy at the end that was thrown off of the tower? That looks like a very big fall.....unless somehow his fall is broken. They don't address it in the previews either, so I figure its not anything as a cliffhanger either.Comment

It was addressed briefly in the long preview after the show...
