    "Complexion of a caucasian"?

Though I will admit, Krypton didn't show a lot of racial diversity...kind of rough to hold that against the guy.

He's the last of his people, has to deal with the expectations that go with that, his enemies have vast powers as well, he's the ultimate immigrant, protecting his adopted people, and struggles with the idea of the "greater good" as well as having to hide his real self from everyone close to him.

ugh please dont have goyer and nolan involved in the sequel....dark kight rises was so logically flawed and they ruined man of steel for me. They decimated metropolis but it seems that clark went to work the next day like nothing happened...::rolls eyes::

          Re: Superman Man Of Steel

I'm really torn on Man of Steel. I thought Cavill was great when he actually got to do something, but there was way too much mass destruction for the movie to have any gravity. Like Supes bent over backwards to save some of the soldiers in Smallville, yet he and Zod smashed through like 100 skyscrapers in Metropolis, seemingly killing hundreds of thousands of people in the process without a single ounce of sorrow or regret by any of the characters. They're still rebuilding the World Trade Center after 9/11... in Metropolis, they have decades upon decades of work to do. What is he supposed to defend in the sequel? He did a terrible job protecting Metropolis the first time around.

Snap take: Superman Returns was better. Superman had more defining characteristics, was a lot closer to the character I remember from the comics/cartoons as a kid, and jesus... compare the two scenes where Metropolis is under attack. Routh's Superman was in a frenzy trying to protect every single person, whereas Cavill's Superman was punching Zod through buildings like they were dominoes.

The visuals were spectacular, though, and I think this version of Superman is a much more natural foil for a cynical Batman that secretly has reservations about the amount of power Superman could use if he went sideways. I would love if the Man of Steel sequel was centered around Lex Luthor leading the relief efforts in helping to rebuild Metropolis and using the publicity against Superman. Could be a great angle, especially if they somehow wove Bruce Wayne into the mix. As many things as I didn't like about this movie, one thing I will say is that it really sets the table, potentially, for some compelling sequels and shared-universe movies.

I thought the movie was excellent I really enjoyed Kevin Costner's relationship with Superman. Ppl need to learn how to let their comic books and old classic films stand in their own class. That's what I do.

Would the Returns Superman have been able to do the same if he was actually fighting someone at the same time? Doubt it. I'm sure he'd try though. FYI, Metropolis wasn't under attack in Returns. It was basically the Earth reacting to the new Krypton land mass forming and Metropolis just so happened to be there.

I liked Returns, but looking back it's simply too much nostalgia and not a very good way to introduce Superman to an audience who has never seen the Donner films.

                And again,
                Spoiler
People need to stop using the "he's not the Superman I grew up with!" line for being disappointed in the movie, because IT'S A REBOOT! What's important is that the CORE ELEMENTS of the character are there or is being formed, which I think it did.

We can't all be stuck with the Donner version forever.

Well said I agree. There are much worse super hero movies that have been released that is for sure. I think ppl get caught up in the science and canon of fantasy sagas and they just plain forget to just enjoy something for what it is, not for what it is compared to. And this is coming from an old head so I remember when all of the original Superman films were really popular

Not really, I'm pretty easy on movies and I barely ever talk about movies around here. You're just upset because I didn't like Dark Knight Rises.

I really have no reason to be upset about what you're opinion with anything is. So I'd say you're off base with that

Just saw it again for the 2nd time. Aside from it still feeling like a fresh new film, I liked it even more! Plus, it helps when the people sitting near you don't have kids who ask questions EVERY DAMN TIME.

I also picked up on things I may have overlooked during my first screening. Like when critics mention

The scenes with his parents (both biological and adopted) had more of an impact the second time as well. Costner and Crowe are so good, I hope there's more of them in the future.

Meh. Would "white" have sounded better? I used complexion because he's an alien who looked white, but was not from Earth, and conveniently landed in a country where the predominant population looked just like he did.

Considering his character was made in the late 30's and early 40's I'm not holding it against him because ,as I said, this goes for a lot of superheros in comics.

Yep yep. And all this made him a fascinating character...when he was a teeenager (there is a reason I liked Smallville). After he grows up and has a handle on things? Nope. There is no such thing as unstability with Superman. He doesn't carry any sense of mortality nor do you ever get the feeling he's going to make the wrong decision at any point. If he's never wrong and he can't lose, then what would make me continue reading?

Great Movie. Really enjoyed it. Felt like a darker version of any of the other films. Very serious overtones. They really hammered home the Good V Evil thing, which when I was growing up was what Superman was to me.

This 1 really hit home with me.
