Seems either severely flawed or simply poor plot point. It's not HUGE to me, but it seems like a cop out to use that excuse.

It wasn't explained, but I imagine Jor-El's purpose, as a scientist, was the betterment of the Kryptonian race as well. And he believed that natural births were the key to that. Also, he felt that with Krypton's impending doom, they had to coexist with another race. Jor-El was a scientists, Zod a warriors. Their means to the same ends are going to be very different. Jor-El didn't have the freedom of choice anymore than did Zod, but his methods ended up being different.

Jor-El wasn't making that choice for Kal-El. He merely shows/tells him what he can do but at the end of the day, just as Jonathan told Clark, he's the one making a choice. Good character or bad.

Also, this podcast with Kevin Smith on Man of Steel (spoiler alert) is freakin' hilarious. A bit long, but worth the listen.

I felt like the film was either incomplete or too rushed.

To be honest, I felt like half the time they were going too fast, and sometimes they were going far too slow.

Example of both: Clark just suddenly accepting that his father sent him to the planet to be what amounts to a God, and that his father wanted him to be a Superhero and even had his tailoring done! What a guy!

Then we have Zod's conclusion to basically cause genocide instead of willingly live side by side with humans. While I appreciate that the film needs a villain, Zod is portrayed, for the most part, as a man who only cares about recreating his civilization. Humans willingly give him that chance, and he just says "Nah, I'll just kill everyone instead"? Seems unlikely, and needed more development in that area.

All in all, I'd say it's okay. I think it's by far the best movie released since Superman 2 Donner Version, and better than Superman 1. It's appreciation for Superman and the seriousness that Superman has is all very welcomed. Also love little nods to the comics and universe.

The final battle reminded me a lot of the Death of Superman, some moments that looked eerily similar to that comic.

Also, the Satellite belonging to Wayne Corp was awesome and provides some future material.

I'd say 6 1/2 or 7 out of 10. I enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't see it in theaters again.

The costume in the ship belonged to one of Kal El's ancestors. His cousin Kara was one of the settlers on the ship Zod and Jor El spoke about when Krypton was moving to other planets. It's explained a little better in the prequel comic.

Just saw the movie and here is my two cents. Minor spoilers may be involved, but will stay away from major ones....1.) This Zod sucked. First, was it me or did he have a slight lisp? C'mon! Supervillains can't have lisps? Might as well have Superman fight Daffy Duck. Give me Terrance Stamp's Zod any day. 2.) Why did he have to wear heavy battle armor 98% of the movie? On Earth you are pretty much indestructible, go ahead and be comfortable. 3.) Just let them breathe! They are aliens. They look and speak just like us. You don't have to explain why they need to wear SCUBA type masks to adjust to our atmosphere. Go ahead, we will not hold it against you. 4.) Lois Lane was not hot. C'mon! If you were the 'Man Of Steel' would she be the one you hooked up with? And other than that, the last 50% of the movie was either buildings toppling into one another, or Superman and his earthly mother hugging one another on the front porch. Not a lot of in between. Just my opinion. 2&1/2 stars.

You lost all credibility to me when you said Amy Adams wasn't hot. That woman is friggin gorgeous (and guest starred on Smallville way back in time).

Babies on krypton are genetically engineered. This was first seen in John Byrne's Superman reboot "Man of Steel." Kal-El was the first natural birth in many many years.
