    Re: Superman Man Of Steel

Some people just have criticisms with movies, it is what it is. I have some problems with certain movies that are universally acclaimed and i'm sure others do as well, it's just how it is.

I vote we move on to just discussing the movie, and not calling a mod who's been pretty reasonable a troll.

What was that award that used to be handed out here? Asshat of the Week?

      Hmm....

And you've made veiled threats about me trolling TWICE on this thread (Do you only skim your own posts too?) and I understand that might be your go to debate tactic but don't act like you don't understand what a mod waving that lil' sword is all about. You're better than that...even when you're talking about yourself in the third person.

Yes, I have robustly defended a movie I liked while you, Sir, just seem to be lurking around reminding everybody you didn't. Is there not a puppy forum on the site you can go to and tell everybody you're a cat person over and over? Maybe you can call a person who likes Poodles a borderline troll with an agenda. Good times. Good times.
        We should stop.

I'm trying to have a normal argument about a movie. I'm trying to ask you to explain your criticisms of those that didn't enjoy the film and you haven't done that.

It just seems you're trying to make it personal by throwing slight jabs at me and I don't know why because I never threw a personal punch at you; I only challenged a post you made (yes with some mod power thrown in to warn you it was close to trolling though you seem to believe I said it was trolling).

But now I feel you're gonna say something that will get you in trouble and that's not my intent.

So we should simply move on. Agree to disagree. Whatever people want to call it now.

I want to see it again. For some reason the last couple of movies I've seen have been better the second time around. I loved the fight scenes and really didnt care about the people in buildings.

WOW, what a movie. I never thought a Superman movie could have me on the edge of my seat in the year 2013 but man, this was one intense flick. A great story, really good performances, and LOTS OF ACTION.....

But maybe too much, and this is where I can definitely understand where some people have problems with the movie.
                    Spoiler
I mean, to me its almost as if the film makers just went all out for fear that the movie wouldnt do well enough to get a sequel greenlit. And some of that is probably due to the criticisms of Superman Returns, which I didnt hate but really did nothing new for the character and in fact probably damaged the brand even more.

Which brings me to the character of Superman himself in MoS. I LOVED how they presented his origin story in the form of flashbacks through the movie. Also dug how he's shown going through what really was just a HUGE learning process of becoming Earth's greatest defender. He made mistakes and he wasn't perfect, something Superman fans are unfamiliar with(a good thing IMO) but he still showed the characteristics of a great hero.

The love story (or lack thereof) was pretty meh, tho. Seemed too rushed and not really convincing considering the events at the end of the movie, although Amy Adams was pretty good as Lois.
                    Spoiler

But the major reason I liked MoS is that it was a NEW vision of Superman, one that shows the development of the character, instead of just giving us a perfect, flawless God like being who has a clear cut solution for everything as soon as he appears on screen. I think maybe some fans that complain that Superman would never do some of the things he does in MoS tend to forget that he lived on Earth, among humans pretty much ALL his life. It just really wouldn't make much sense to do the full boy scout routine right out the gate, especially since the filmmakers wanted to take a more realistic approach (something many fans enjoyed about Nolan's Batman movies) I'm sure the sequels will show him as a more experienced and smarter superhero.

In conclusion I give it 4 out of 5 stars. And Hans Zimmer's score ROCKED!

lol. Rosenbaum made for a great Luthor in Smallville, but he quit the show cause he got tired of playing Lex.

Whoever they cast, Lex ought to be a secondary villain to set him up as THE foe for Superman in the future.

I watched this last night and I thought it was pretty average. Out of all of the pretty recent superhero movies it was definitely my least favorite. I don't know what it was but I just couldn't get into it. It was boring and just repetitive. Maybe I'll watch it again. I don't know.

Finally saw it last night. Loved the movie as a whole, but I still like CR as Superman better. He just had so much more presence and charisma, in my opinion.

It was weird during the movie: I felt like HC was very good in the scenes before wearing the suit and becoming Superman. But I didn't care for his acting once he became Superman. Don't know how to explain it.

Anyway, I just watched a little old clip from Superman 2 and Reeve just seemed better in any way.

But as a movie as a whole, Man of Steel is great. It's nice to have a good Superman movie again.
