SpoilerInstances where Superman hurled Zod through buildings:
1. 7-11
2. Running Zod thru the side of a building after the same was done to him
Instances where Zod threw/punched/whatever Superman through buildings:
1. A lot of times.
Superman punched Zod twice while flying and directed him AWAY from buildings.
Most of the collateral damage was done when Superman was the one RECEIVING a blow from his foe, not the other way around. Same goes for the Smallville sequence.
I do agree though that if they presented the fight the way you said, it would be much more satisfying. On the other hand, I've accepted that this is Kal-El getting his training on the job and dude doesn't know squat about fighting guys who can do the same as him.
First time I have ever said that. Because the above needs to be handled and not brushed aside.
A hero learning? I'll buy it, if they make it a focus of the sequel's first act.

I will Change my opinion on the movie depending on how they handle it in the sequel.

In all the interviews they did say they would tackle such issues in a sequel, and I hope they follow-thru.Comment

SpoilerI would like to see Lex and LexCorp come in the sequel and help with the rebuilding and property damaged areas.

You lost all credibility with me when you disagreed with me that in fact, Amy Adams is hot. And if you have to go 'way back in time' to defend your argument? Well, match point. I win.Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Went to see with the gf last weekend. We were both excited to see it; both came away a bit disappointed. The flashback scenes were very well done - I thought the movie did a great job showing the angst/feelings of isolation Clark had to grow up with. The transition from Clark to Superman seemed somewhat abrupt (especially with how well the original handled it). The big fight scenes, while cool to watch for a while, eventually became too overbearing and didn't have a lot of weight. Just made the movie seem too long. It's a difficult balancing act, given there was a big call for Zach Snyder to turn up the action in this movie. I thought the movie was decent; just wanted to like it more.

I was also surprised the movie "introduces" Clark at the Daily Planet at the end of the movie. Putting aside most of the city having been leveled, it made it seem even that much more illogical to accept the "I put on glasses and my identity is concealed" conceit. That was another thing that's hard for ANY Superman movie to live up to; Christopher Reeve was just so perfect for the part. It's remarkable how he could make himself seem physically meek/bumbling as Clark but embody complete confidence as Superman. I really like Henry Caviell (sp), but like Brandon Routh (liked him too) they're almost too good looking/don't seem to have the ability to make the transitions between Clark/Superman seem believable. Secret identities would be just damn near impossible... short of full transformations. Even something something as simple body posture can revel a person, think about how often you see somebody walking from a distance and know who it is instantly.
Reeves did a remarkable job but at no point do we actually not realize that it's him playing both roles...same problem with the secret identity to start with.Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
I've seen the movie a second time now, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time. The destruction level is high at the end, that's where the movie lost my wife, but I never felt that Superman was being too careless, that's why I liked how it all ended to show that he isn't a careless hero. The flashback scenes were great, and I think those were what really made the movie for me. We all know Superman's origin, so that was a great way to go through all that history in a fresh way.
I definitely think this is the best Superman movie ever made, followed by the first Chris Reeve one, but it doesn't have that one big moment for me. The best Superman movie moment for me came in Superman Returns when he saved the plane, that was just an awesome scene, too bad it couldn't save the movie (although I didn't hate it). Man of Steel, just didn't have that one super-memorable seen like some of the previous movies had like the plane rescue, Lois and the helicopter, etc.

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
I liked it and thought it was miles better than Superman Returns which I thought was a horrible characterization of Superman. Like CMH, my overall satisfaction of MoS will probably depend on how the next installment handles the rest of the cast, the events at the end of the movie, and building a fully realized villain. I thought the tone and pacing was very well done. I see a lot of comments about length, but apart from redundancies of the fighting I thought the film went by pretty damn quick. I really dig Cavill's voice he does for Superman. Not too noticeable of a change, but just enough to give him an air of nobility. I thought Cavill did pretty good, but he wasn't really thrust into many drama scenes much less have to carry the weight of them.
As for the story I enjoyed it even if it was pretty straight-forward. To me it finally felt like they deconstructed Clark's character enough to give him some humanity and vulnerability as the movie completely revolved around Clark at the expense of building the other characters up (sans Lois). I felt the flashbacks were very well done and while this didn't hammer its themes like Batman Begins it managed to flesh out Clark's personality in a way that really hasn't been seen other than maybe Smallville. I haven't decided if I liked Zod's development in this or just simply wanted to see a lot more of Michael Shannon's performance. That guy is always fun to watch and he didn't disappoint here. I want to see the rest of the cast (Ma Kent and Daily Planet staff) beefed up in the next movie. Here they just felt like pieces to Clark's puzzles rather than helping hands.
Overall I really enjoyed it. Probably closer to Batman Begins or Iron Man 1 in terms of quality, but I feel like the groundwork has even more potential than what was show in this.
SpoilerLike I said previously, I think bringing in Lex and LexCorp to help rebuild Smallville/Metropolis would add a nice dynamic and already introduce a rift between Lex and Supes. I figure Lex would blame Superman for all the damage while at the same time accepting praise for his generosity and loyalty to the local people.
