Honestly, I don't mind the suit. I kind of like it actually. I knew with Snyder that it wouldn't be the suit we all have known from previous movies, and upon hearing that they were going with the redesigned suit from the comics, this is about what I expected. I'm more excited about the fact that Cavill looks like a house in the suit. I have a feeling there are going to be some absolutely brutal fight scenes in this movie with Supes and Zod.

Also, i'm thinking the "bracelets" aren't going to be worn in the movie, and that they may be there for filming reasons. What those reasons are, I have no idea, but they weren't in the original picture released.

I like the suit but it does look weird without the red trunks and will take some getting used to. I would have only worried if Snyder had made him completely unrecognizable. As long as I look at him and say that's Superman than I am fine with it. I can't see the bracelets staying either and I think it is needed for an effect or something like that.

So not only has Snyder changed the look of Superman, is his Clark Kent not wearing glasses? I got to quit looking at all these set pics because the more I do the less enthused I get about this flick. Which sucks I don't know if there is anyone on OS that is as big a Superman fan as I am.

I am a big fan as he is my favorite Superhero as he is the King in my opinion. I try to buy Superman merchandise but I am not an avid collector more if I come across something I like I get it. I am not really a comic fan like I was when I was younger so I may behind on things as I usually follow the movies and tv incarnations of the character so I may be more open to change. In Donners Superman he never wore glasses in the Smallville scenes not until he got to metropolis so maybe it's the same situation in Snyders film.

I think the lack of trunks wouldn't be so bad if the belt gave a bigger contrast between the top and bottom.

I agree they should at least make the belt red to match the new relaunch Superman comic coming in Sept. He looks too naked without both. From what I can tell from the photos shown it doesn't look like the belt is colored but it might not be showing up as most photos are low res and blurry.

Yeah if Clark is not wearing glasses in Smallville that's ok IMO but if they do that once he hits Metropolis and he's still not wearing glasses that'll be TURRIBLE.

I'm not the biggest Superman fan (more of a Batman/Spiderman/Capt. America fan) but I do like the character and the mythos (he has had some really good Elseworld tales) and to see such liberties taken on the property irks me.

Just like how Superman is no longer married to Lois in the upcoming DC comics relaunch it's things like that that will drive me and i'm sure more dedicated fans insane.

Singer's film wasn't perfect but I really wanted to see how he would mold the whole storyline with Supes' son. Oh well....

Yep, I really wanted to see Brandon Routh grow in the role as well. I watched the Returns blu ray on my new 51 inch plasma recently and it was the first time I had seen it on such a big screen since it's release in 06. It was a beautiful movie to look at and I really thought that Routh embodied the part perfectly, he was much more than the Chris Reeve clone that fanboys internet wide accused him of being.

I'm happy that we are at least getting a Superman film but I am worried that if it's not successful then the franchise will get put back on ice for another 20 years.

Hopefully the story will be good enough to make up for all the changes from the tradition of Superman. Guess I can live with this.

                            A couple points:

                            1) I agree Routh was far more than a Reeves impersonation but he was put in a bad position by the script because the first half of the film was clearly a Donner homage. I happened to like that because it reminded me of what's so great about Superman and just how good the Donner films were.

                            2) This leads to the 2nd point that I have in that Superman is a tough character to have a long franchise with. Superman is a very optimistic kind of character so there's the possibility that that positive vibe can be overdone. There's the other aspect of Superman which frankly hasn't been done on screen and I don't think WB would ever allow it to happen and that's the whole Space Jesus thing.

Superman has been portrayed in a Messianic way at times in the comics (most notably in the '70s when Cary Bates and Elliot S! Maggin were handling the character. I don't think we want to see a brooding Superman who questions himself and is treated like a God on the big screen.

Well that's still only fan art. We'll see when they're ready to show us exactly what it is that they want to show us.

I don't mind the changes that much. Then again, I wasn't ever really one who saw all the Superman movies anyway.

In Returns, I feel like Routh was let down by every other aspect of the film. IMO, the plot, dialogue, directing, performances and casting of the other actors, the suit, were all sub par. So while I thought he was a great Superman, there was no chance for him to return in the reboot.

My gut says that Man of Steel will have the same kind of reception and success that J.J. Abram's Star Trek did. Some/many hard core traditionalist will hate it, but enough of the diehards will join the legions of newcomers in embracing the changes and it will do very, very well.

As of now, I'm all aboard with everything we've seen so far, especially the suit.
