Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

Wasn't planning on buying a new tv, but my brother asked if I was interested in a 60" Samsung 4K smart tv (6270) on clearance for $350. Ended up being $410 with the extended warranty plus tax.

Definitely an upgrade over the Black Friday 55" 4K Phillips, I'm moving to the bedroom.

How far do you sit from your OLED?
Zero. One, I have a 3 TV setup in my man cave and the way I have my two TVs mounted on the side, I cant fit anything bigger than a 55' in between them.

Two, I've never been a big TV guy. Most of my HD TVs have been 50'-55'.

Depending on where I'm sitting, I sit anywhere from 8-11 feet away from the TV.

I wish I had spent the extra $100 to get my girlfriend a 55" instead of a 50". If you can afford to go bigger, go bigger. I personally don't get why someone would invest so much money into an OLED (or any decent 4K TV) and get a 55" if you are sitting 10' away.

How far away will you be sitting from it?

Hmm. Its not like 10' is too far or too close to see how good the 4K or HDR is. Also there is a big cost difference between a 65' and 55' OLED. This isnt a $100 difference like your girlfriends TV. Most arent willing to spend 800 to 1000 dollars more.

To each his own though. I'd rather sacrifice the size difference and get the TV I want than either pay 3 grand for a TV or get a lower quality TV for cheaper price.

It's not how big it is, it's how you use it

I avoided my impulses and made it through the holidays without buying a TV. Came super close to buying the vizio M65 (2016) and Samsung KS8000 (65") but just didn't pull the trigger for a variety of reasons - 2 kids under 2, work stuff, want to upgrade our 2nd car, house stuff etc. I'm usually unable to resist new tech, so I'm kind of proud of myself heh.. but moving forward i still think I'll get a 4k in 2017, probably around black friday/xmas/boxing day ... by then it will be interesting to see how the landscape has changed. If it's kind of stagnant and the ks is still top among the non-oled, maybe I get that - if OLED's go down in price (doubt it) I'll do that.

For me I need a 65 inch - downstairs where I will set it up my 55" is about 12-14ft away and at that distance for me anyway, I find myself leaning forward during gaming. I also find NBA 2k irritating to my eyes too far away, not sure why. The room it's in also would suit a big tv.

Anyway, you guys with oled probably future proof'd yourself a bit, so those are solid purchases, same with the ks to an extent. The thing I liked about vizio too is it's full-array.

I thought Sony's idea from CES was pretty cool:
That image above appears to show one giant seamless LED display, but Sony’s new CLEDIS system, presumably intended for use in convention centers like the

it's more for commercial applications though, but I could see some option like that a few years from now for homesetups
Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.

For you guys with 4k HDR TVs check out "The World in HDR in 4K" on YouTube. One of the best videos showcasing HDR. This looks fantastic.

LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

Wife and I went to Best buy and had a "discussion" for a bit and ultimately came to the agreement that i shouldn't but a low end tv for the living room and should instead buy the Samsung KS8000 for my game room but I should wait until it's $1,300. But that doesn't mean it has to list for $1,300 but rather if I can like figure out a way to only pay $1,300 out of pocket.

She was very impressed with the tv and I think she actually liked it. She said to buy it first and worry about the tv in the living room later. I am a bit suspicious she's merely trying to delay me but I think she may be right that I would like to just get the Samsung KS8000 65".

Another nice thing is no mounting or anything when I get the Samsung, I will just move my old Samsung DLP and put it in my huge stand and BOOM! Ready to go

I think that factored a bit into get and my agreement as well as it'll be nice to not have to hire a contractor and move TVs around and pay that extra $165 for the remounts.,

So I'm excited and a bit disappointed as I have to go back to waiting but I think I can have this TV in about two months and I'm hoping by then the new TVs will drive down the price as well as that should just about be the time the new ones are the ones they want to sell over the 2016 models

Guys, when it comes to price matching at Best Buy, it really depends on the store. I'm a store manager and I will usually offer something close to the deal if it's a site like listed previously. Some stores won't. It's worth a shot. OLED's are on sales now though.

Ya. It's specialty pricing. I get access through where I work. I thought the retailmenot link was working for just anyone, but apparently my browser remembered me clicking through with an official link. I see otherwise now that I used a different browser to use that link

So I guess its not as easy as I thought for everyone to get it. But yes, the 65" is currently that cheap.

They won't. I tried. They pull up Samsung.com on their own PC and it shows the normal non-epp sale price. I think you'd have to get a manager who gave zero ****s. I believe Samsung is pretty strict on pricing.
