The rankings you are referring to are for 2010. But CNET reviewer stated on their forum that the B8500 is the best LCD LED ever and the Kuro is the best rated tv they ever had.

The C8000 is an edge lit so right there it does not match the B8500 which is local dimming

I see. I have no doubt those are great TV's (I've seen the Kuro...it's fantastic). I would like to think that newer is often better, but I realize that's not always the case as I don't think anyone has matched the Kuro yet.

The C8000 I was referring to was the plasma version as CZ stated. Samsung probably should have created a better distinction between their model numbers.


BTW, the pictures you showed of the 8500's menu system looks identical to that of my C8000. I'm guessing they used the same menu for the most part? That would explain why we both have a lot of settings even in Game Mode to make the picture look good.

Call me crazy, but I'm not sure why some are so worried about input lag? From what I've read and from what I've seen, there are always settings that can be turned off or even on (Game Mode) that will almost completely eliminate any input lag. I suppose if a TV does not have a Game Mode setting, that would be an issue though. Never used Game Mode on my old DLP, but it sure made a difference on the plasma. Definitely wouldn't exchange the C8000 as it's the best picture I've seen thus far.

Of course, I'm not a huge gamer anymore due to lack of time so that might be part of the issue. I only buy 3-4 games per year (Madden, CoD, The Show and sometimes TW), but most of those games are timing based so who knows?

My Sammy has a game mode, and honestly when I first got the TV I nearly cried about how much input lag there was on screen. You might not notice it until you plug your console into a standard tube TV again with composite cables. The response will be so quick (for whatever game you play), you'll start to feel like the game is doing the moves before you are.

Lag is a serious issue, especially with baseball games. I don't like to attribute the one big flaw in MLB 2K10 (lack of response while batting) to my television, but I'm sure it's not helping at all either.

Hit the nail on the head. I wish more people would stop calling me crazy and realize that input lag is getting worst for tv's due to the high amount of processing done to make the PQ excellent.

As much as people use CNET, to get a sense of where a TV is in reference to performance. CNET is NOT the holy grail of TV Reviews.. Review sites like Home Theater Magazine & Sound & Vision are also great reviews sites if your gathering information to help you make an informed decision when purchasing.

Both LCD & PLASMA have there strengths & weaknesses. As I've said before it all matters on what your looking for in a display..

Yup, I use all 3 references and AVS to gather info before I make my purchase

I bought my Kuro and Sammy LED because of the great feedback it received from all major sources and

I used HTM to find info on my Pioneer Elite AV Receiver

This is for plasma break in period, you never want to raise these settings to much for the first couple of weeks so the plasmas phosphorus can get acclimated and colors start to become sharper over time

You should also run slides at night with various colors to help advance the development of the plasma

Ok so out of the the box on gamer settings the contrast was at 100 and everything else was at 50. Should I make sure that the contrast is set to 50 in all modes?

I couldn't help myself and I played games all night. I was very careful and I made sure that no image was in place for more than a few minutes. I didn't have any image retention or burn-in and the picture was off the charts.

I felt like a little kid while playing games in 3D and the 2D picture made some bad games incredible. The 2D picture was actually worth the cost of the TV alone and the 3D feature has been an awesome bonus.

I have setting that you can use a few pages back, I have bumped up my brightness in those settings which I would keep around 50 if I were you.

I have setting that you can use a few pages back, I have bumped up my brightness in those settings which I would keep around 50 if I were you.

Wild, this is what I posted several pages back........just lower the brightness a little bit. If you plan on running the slides, send me a PM because you will have to use different settings which are completely different from these.
