Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I will say that there will be very few adjustments. I hooked up a sensor and did a couple tests, there is almost no adjusting to be made. To be honest, you really don't need to calibrate these. I will take a couple pictures of the TV, speakers, Oppo, and receiver so you guys can see this stuff. The Oppo is awesome, if you haven't heard of it, research it. All this company makes is blurays.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Don't believe this post! That is probably a tie for the best looking 1080p tv on the market. Even though it is crappy "HD"
I'm just kidding...when talking to Sony reps, we were talking about the difference in say the 80" 857u Sharp and the Sony 4k, and somewhere in there they mentioned that 1080p is just terrible...I thought it was kind of funny at the time, yet kind of true after seeing the upscaling this tv has. Samsung really impressed me with their plasma line this year though, very nice tv's. Although, I've still heard and seen in some cases that the VT and ZT handle ambient light a little better...what do you think?Comment

I saw the Sony at BB. 4K is gorgeous, but for me it will be unneeded for quite some time. I don't think it's going to win people over unless everything (the TV's, players, and media) become cheaper than Blu-ray is now because of diminishing returns on these TV sizes. Not saying we don't appreciate the difference, but many won't for the price.
I just don't think it will touch what HD and Blu-ray did.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I did extensive research for this TV for the past few months. The end decision had a lot to do with the higher peak whites on the Samsung for our family room. The VT60 is pretty reflective. The ZT60 not so much, but it's the darkest of the three as well.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
By the way, I just discovered that game mode on this tv turns off all processes except up conversion. Not going to lie, the up conversion still looks the same except the input lag is the same if not better than my Panny.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
The "experts" on AVS forums like the DLP PJs from BenQ ($605-2D and $610-3D on Amazon)...as well as those from Viewsonic and Epson
2D http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-W710ST-Sh...=operasport-20
3D http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-W770ST-Th...=operasport-20
If you want a brighter picture then go for a 3LCD projector like this Epson ($675 shipped)
http://www.amazon.com/Epson-V11H4750...=operasport-20
In the $400-500 range you can get a "business/presentation" PJ that has 1 HDMI that could function in a home theater. Then you would need an HDMI switcher if you have more than 1 HDMI source.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
My rear projection Mitsubishi died last week and I've been looking for a new TV. I'd love a plasma, but for my viewing habits, I'm not sure it's all that feasible.
My TV is on a sports channel probably 95% of the time it's on. By that I mean ESPN/MLBN/NFLN/FSN. Am I'm wrong for think I'll definitely end up with IR or burn-in? I know a little bit is probably expected, and I could probably deal with it, but I basically come home after class/work, throw the TV on one of the above channels, and then leave it there until I go to bed. Just based on what I've read, that seems like something I wouldn't be able to do with a plasma.Comment

I actually think IR is more prevalent in this year's models than the last two years.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Simply put, yes.
I've had my PN64D7000 for 26 months now and have had ZERO issues with IR or burn in and I leave static images on my screen for lengthy periods and leave sports channels on for hours at a time. Newer plasmas (since about 2010) don't have the issues that the ones ten years ago did.Comment
