Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Are we surprised though after they announced they closed their plasma R&D department?

How do warranties work with situations like this? I know they have to be honored, but what does a place like Best Buy do when they can't replace it in 3 years because none exist?

My guess is they'll allow you to replace that model with 1 that is comparable

I wish Harmonix would do that with my Rock Band drums that won't sync up. :smh:

Not unexpected, but that's too bad. They're moving on to "bigger and better" things, so at least we can be excited for what's to come with 4K and OLED, etc.

OLED is interesting, but it's still too expensive at the moment and it suffers greatly from image retention. I hear worse than plasmas..

Damn. I've been holding off on getting another panel and was planning on picking up a Panny plasma down the road.

Sold a 84" Sony 4k today. I'm excited to do the install on this. The guy dropped $26,800 on the TV and protection plan. That's a lot of money, but for someone who can afford it, it's going to be unreal.

Have you had the chance to demo the new Oppo blu ray player that has Darbee processing technology in it?

I'm looking for a good 65 incher with low input lag and great picture. Preferably plasma, but I'm going to give LED a Try this time around.. Any suggestions?

Yeah, the Oppo's are the real deal. They're not for everyone though. The only real advantage to an Oppo is to have a 4k or really high end tv, premium sound, premium sound cables, premium HDMI cables, etc. If you pair the Oppo with a Samsung 6003 tv with a soundbar, I can't say your experience would improve too much. I don't really need the Oppo's processing because my TV already does it just as good if not better. You can't cut corners when using an Oppo or else you will lose quality. We have a lot of people that firmly believe all HDMI cables are the same. Well, when you put an Oppo to a 4k with a $9,000 sound system without the cheap cable, your sound is the quality of a $750 system.

Check out the Samsung 64" I believe, for some reason the size seemed off, or the Panasonic VT60. Samsung has a brighter picture and is very cost friendly for how end of a tv it is. The Panasonic is THX certified and has CMS for calibrations.
