Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Man cave ...... Basement ..... no windows with controlled light environment. Replacing a 100 inch projector system with this. My wife and I realize that with the 3 kids, a projector system in our basement is not as viable since they are always down there and its there domain so to speak. So need to have something they can use on a daily basis rather than worrying about bulb life all the time for the projector. LOL! But once 4k projector systems become mainstream and are in a 'reasonable' price range.....then projector, 'man cave' will be back in the picture.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
That is a very good point and why I'm really leaning toward getting an OLED from this generation....I'm really interested in the 55c6p not only for its 4k, HDR blah, blah, blah...but also I heard it has killer 3d capabilities....I never subscribed to 3d but now for some reason, I'm interested to give it a try now after all reviewers sang its praises this year.Comment

Will non-videophiles care? Hell no. They don't even calibrate their systems. But replacing a 100" projector screen? If you want even close to that size in OLED, you might want to consider pawning off one or two of your kids.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Yeah, I just didn't know if you were looking for more of something for movies or for daytime viewing with outdoor light flying in from every which direction.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Gotcha. The thing I'm really skeptical about Samsung's QLED's is the "controlled environment" for which they had to show off their new sets. They wouldn't let you get very close to the screens or compare in a dark room to OLED's. They were kind of more like, "Stay behind the rope." I just think they are hiding some of the things that will make them inferior to OLED, especially in a dark room environment.

Interesting regarding Samsung QLEDs....That is a bit of a head scratcher....its like saying....Here is a Lambo Aventador....But hey....don't touch the steering wheel or turn it on...just look at it.
Yeah man...losing the 100 inch option does hurt a bit....but man...OLEDs pic quality is crazy....Dare I say the tech is getting near Pioneer Kuro screen status! Was that blasphemous what I just said? LOL!Comment

Can't wait to try the PB-16's someday. Maybe when I move, I'll get four of those or so lol. Doesn't have anything to do with TV's, but ah well.

As long as anybody has a Kuro, they should hold onto it as long as possible. Understanding that you can't ever go back again is something that you just don't want to lose.
Here's what somebody said about Samsung at CES:
Samsung was far more defensive at the show than LG. LG would allow me to get as close to any screen as Ivwanted and would let me stay for as long ascIvwanted. Samsung had lines on the carpet ad out a screen-widths away and would not let you inspect the screen closely (at least any screen showing any dark portion of content). If you approached a screen closer than they wanted they would shoo you away. They allowed close inspection of the off-angle demo but it was only showing bright content. This may end up being a problem for them on the show-room floor
What I believe is likely to be an issue is 'OLED-like' Blacks ('Real Black'). They've no doubt introduced something new to justify the branding, but from what I have seen, a true head-to-head against OLED in a dark room with high-contrast content (meaning partially black screen) will show that the QLED blacks are 'glowing' in comparison to the OLED...
I'm a Best Buy guy only because I hate online systems. I like being able to pick up my physical television, be responsible for every portion of what physical damage comes its way, and exchange it same-day if there is an issue. Most people here would likely say Amazon, but Scott also mentioned a 24-month no-interest financing options you can do at BBY.Last edited by Blzer; 01-19-2017, 08:03 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Haha I'm the opposite. I'll even take white glove service. I think it's because of the effort required to move three car sears in order to fit stuff in our large vehicle.
Amazon also has 24 month no interest on TVsComment

Just wanted to check in and see how your OLED experience with a few more days under your belt....Have decided that I definitely want to go the OLED route....just not sure if I should get one now....or wait and see how much QLEDs from Samsung are.....or the new LG OLEDs.
Love it.
Love it.
Love it.
Keep in mind, I'm not a videophile but I tend to tweak my tv more months after I buy it. Trying different settings. Using calibration dvds.
I haven't tweaked the tv at all except for using the rtings settings and changing the hdr to game mode. I will say that this is the first tv I've owned where the HDR on the PS4 pro really stands out. I just love this tv.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Did you get yours from Best Buy? If I remember correctly, you too got the 55c6p? If so...hows the 3d capability? Heard it is freakin' amazing!
Thanks for that review man...I'm sold...Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
The 3d capability is on par with previous LG TVs I've had which means its good. One issue I have is strictly personal. I have the TV mounted and I have 3 chairs in my man cave that are somewhat low to the ground. When I watch 3d while sitting in those chairs, the view is distorted a little. Its perfect if I'm standing or in a higher chair.
Keep that in mind if you are buying the TV and plan to mount it.Comment
