Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Do you mind posting the settings that you use?
I just bought a B7 and the first thing I did was hook up my PS4 Pro and fire up the Show using HDR and game mode. The game looks very dark compared to standard mode using HDR. A huge letdown for me but I'm hoping to get this figured out. ThanksComment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Picked up the LGC7 on Thursday. Great tv except that the picture goes dim in HDR Game Mode. A recent firmware supposedly fixes it. Can anyone please confirm? The update isn’t yet available for download via the tv and the manual update requires access to a Windows PC which I don’t currently have access to.
I want to love and keep this TV but the dim picture in HDR game mode is a game breaker. If the firmware fixes it, then great. If not, what is my next best option (with similar input lag in low 20s)?
Thanks!
As such, I decided to use the LGC7 to replace our ten year old Samsung LCD that is in our main tv/movie room. Managed to get it mounted yesterday and it is STUNNING! I am so glad that I decided to keep the LG and use it for tv/movie watching. So glad I decided to keep!
But I still need to make a decision for my gaming room. Low input lag is important as I want to be able to play The Show. I want a picture that impresses (like the LG) but also works well in HDR game mode. Here are my options (all 55 inch):
1. Samsung MU8000
2. Samsung MU9000
3. Samsung Q7
4. Sony XBR930E (a bit concerned about input lag)
5. Wait to see what 2018 brings

The firmware updated and it is still way, way too dark. It is difficult to see a TV this highly rated, including for HDR gaming, have such an awful picture when using it for actual gaming.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
As I mentioned earlier, I picked up an LG B7 about a week ago. I use my TV for gaming and watching TV/Movies. When playing in game mode with HDR on my PS4 Pro, I was very disappointed in this TV. It was SO dark. I ended up returning it and picked up a Sony X900E. Playing my Pro on this TV with HDR on, man it blows the LG B7 away. So much brighter it's not even funny.Comment

I was going to pick up the B7 for Black Friday but felt OLED isn’t 100% ready for HDR since the tv can’t achieve 1000 nits yet. I think next year’s models might be the ones that achieve this and that’s when I’ll jump aboard.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Personally, one reason I'm holding back on new televisions is because I don't think HDR is ready in itself. There is no standard for it with regard to format, television, or media in particular, and there is no calibrating around that either.
I'd rather wait it out to see what they do to normalize it a little more, and find a TV that doesn't have people commenting that some games appear dark and washed out unless they change the gamma setting, or that it is incompatible because of a data-grading war between DV and HDR.
I'm completely content with my plasma. Maybe some day I'll upgrade, and it will be one that would have me break the bank now but not later. I just don't see a need to pull the plug at this point.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I ended up getting the 49 inch, just because it was the cheapest model and much cheaper than the B7 that I returned. I've been using a 55 inch Samsung for years, so while it does feel a little smaller it's not too big of a difference I guess.
I haven't watched a movie yet. I did test out Netflix, watched a few minutes of the Sons of Anarchy pilot just to see how it looked and it looked really good.
As for just watching TV, I'm struggling finding some good settings. I have Comcast cable and this TV is in the basement, so it's just hooked up to a smaller, secondary HD receiver and not the main hub which is upstairs. I'm not sure if that has any effect or not. I'll keep toying with settings until I find something that looks nice. I primarily watch sports.Comment

Like you I’m a huge plasma fan, but even using HDR 10 which seems to be the standard with 4k looks unbelievable on the top LEDs. I’m just waiting for OLED to achieve over 1000 nits and I’m onboard. SDR doesn’t compare at all to HDR no matter the format. Just buy a tv that does both HDR 10 and Dolby visión and you won’t go back.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I play the Show more than any other game, I'm a baseball addict lol. So far I've played the Show, Madden, 2K18, Star Wars BF2, and Horizon on the X900E. All look damn good. The input lag on the Show isn't bad at all. I don't really notice anything different from the Samsung I've been using.

I picked up a X900E for Christmas but with travel, work, etc. I haven’t had too much time to enjoy it. As far as settings , I’m trying out settings from a page I found on YouTube.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Looking for a 4k TV to pair with my One X. I mainly watch sports on it when not playing.
Thinking 55inch at least and 65 would be optimal.
Obviously I need HDR. My big question is where is OLED is the gaming equation? It is a huge difference maker?Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
LG7C: This TV is now mounted in our main TV viewing room and will be where we watch movies as a family. For this purpose, the LG is the most perfect anything I have ever seen. The picture is stunning and very impressive. I am blown away by how awesome this TV is. Love is not a strong enough word!
However--game mode is "broken" per a recent firmware update that has yet to be resolved. The awesome picture goes to dim and dull when in HDR game mode and is a HUGE disappointment. If it were not for this issue I easily would have picked up a second LG (55 inch) for my gaming room
Sony XBR930e--Because of the game mode issue, I picked up the Sony per a recommendation in this forum and reviews that are almost on par with the LG. The picture is not quite as good as the LG for movie watching but I would probably prefer the Sony picture for gaming regardless.
The Sony picture is very bright and the colors are amazing. I am seeing colors in games like MLB The Show that I have never seen before. It is almost like the Sony has an expanded set of crayons that no one else has access to. Beyond "wow" for gaming purposes and still a great set for movie watching. I do HATE the Sony remote, however. It operates like an artifact from a 1980s museum. it does the job but pales in comparison to the current LG or even Samsung remotes.
So that is my 2 cents worth. I've spent the past two weeks obsessed with getting this right and could not be happier. LG is the choice, by a mile, if you want to use it for movie watching and don't need it to game in game mode. Sony is the choice for gaming and does a great job with movies as well.
Hope this helps!Comment
