Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Then I think you would be fine getting a lower end 4K TV.
What's your spending limit? You might have said it but I didn't see it.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
A month in with the Sony x900f and I am very pleased.
Funny story my sister-in-law was floored I spent over a thousand on a tv. She said she had a hookup for tv’s for $600. Everyone she listed was pure junk. It’s amazing how many people only look at price and everyone is an expert, lol.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I would say 98% of people only look at price and the size. Which is why brands like TCL, Hisense, Insignia, Westinghouse flourish. Most people aren't trying to drop a grand or more on a TV. Hell where I live, majority of people buy their TV from Walmart and Kmart, back when Kmart was still around out here. Your average person know nothing about HDR, how many nits, if it is full array, edge lit, QLED or OLED.
They go to a store, see a 65 inch Hisense is only $498 at Walmart, they grabbing it, no questions asked. They going to be happy as hell too and brag to all their friends that they hit the jackpot with such a large tv at a low price.Comment

LMAO... So true. Then they try to justify their purchases by saying stuff like "I didn't need all the bells and whistles of the bigger brands" not realizing that while they have a 4k tv the image quality is pure trash.I would say 98% of people only look at price and the size. Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
lol those 3 Brands you talked about I never even heard about un till I saw this thread a long time ago when I was starting to think about getting a new TV. I dont known a lot about tech heck never heard of facebook un till like 20012 lol. But the one thing I do known is with like any tech you pay for what you get. If you get cheap its not going to be has good no matter if you are talking about TV's, Computers etc. I dont get a new TV that often so spending like a 1000 for a new TV is not a big deal. I got the Samsung ks8000 55 inch TV back in late 2016 for about 1000 after tax but its really only the 3erd TV I have owned and I am going to be 30 in a few months. I would like to get a OLED Tv they look amazing but I dont have the best job so spending like 3000 or so for a TV is to much for me.I would say 98% of people only look at price and the size. Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Long time lurker in this thread, very informative!
I'm currently still on a 6 year old 55" samsung tv but am going to upgrade to the Samsung qe65q9fn this weekend. I finally convinced the ministry of war at home.
Can't wait to play mlb the show on this baby.
Am hearing good things about the gaming on this tv, also the hdr should be pretty good.
It is still the 2018 model, but they have dropped in price a lot in the Netherlands. Now around € 2300 when they used to be around € 4000,=.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Interesting take on the matter. How would you compare the image of the 4 series TCL to a superior and much more expensive plasma? If you can say you've even seen the 4 series with your own eyes. There are some videophiles who think plasma picture quality has only been recently surpassed.
You see even if the 4 series TCL is a piece of $hit compared to your more expensive TV (TVs) this faux 4k image is still better than most televisions produced 5 years ago regardless of price.Comment

Plasmas were my favorite and I held on to mine for a long time and now OLEDs are my favorite. The pioneer Kuro was regarded as the highest standard for TVs for a while. Plasmas had pros and cons too. I’ve never seen the 4 series TCL. As far as TCL the only TCL I’d personally get would be the 6 series, if I had to buy a TCL. If you’re going to get a 4k tv might as well also get it in HDR as well. Try to get one that has a wide color gamut and does at least 1000 nits of brightness. To me good HDR looks more impressive than resolution. But that all depends on your budget as well.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I still don't know what I'll do after my plasma. I am hoping it'll be something that can offer 8K, 3D, dynamic metadata... the works. It'll likely be some high-end projector. I'm hoping I still don't have to make such a decision for several more years, though.
Holy **** man, how've you been? Haven't seen you post here in like over a year!
And your signature still gets me. I have no idea what the context of that was anymore.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
So I plan to buy a new TV at the end of March, likely the OLED B8 or Samsung Q8FN at 55 inches. My eyes perked up when I saw the OLED price drop, which appears to now be over.
These companies play so many games, I feel like the image quality debate is moot.
I'm just going to get whatever is the cheapest at the end of the month. Maybe even still consider the Sony X900F.After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment
