Look out, Samsung's QD-OLED will be unveiled to the public tomorrow!

If my post history is to be believed, I've been waiting for this for six years. I'd like to see if this is the proverbial gamechanger I've been pining for.

Of course, like all technology in its infancy, perhaps this will need time to untap everything special about it.

I know this is a "TV" thread, but it looks like Alienware is releasing a QD-OLED 34" ultrawide monitor. This is literally the monitor I've been dreaming of.

Look out, Samsung's QD-OLED will be unveiled to the public tomorrow!

If my post history is to be believed, I've been waiting for this for six years. I'd like to see if this is the proverbial gamechanger I've been pining for.

Of course, like all technology in its infancy, perhaps this will need time to untap everything special about it.

I would be shocked if it's not around the price of the Sony, which is rumored to be $8K for the 65".

Yeah they aren't even doing sizes larger than 65" this year.

Looks like Samsung will be supplying the same panels for Sony and Samsung QD-OLED TVs. So shouldn't be any real difference other than how each manufacturer controls the pixels.

Hoping we see the cost drop for next year's models and don't have to wait several years for the tech to get to consumer pricing.

If that’s the case, Sony OLEDs and LG OLEDs should look identical. Hell, so should Vizio OLEDs.

Those aren't the exactly same panels, at least for vizio. Then it's the cpu and how you use the panels.

Since this is the first manufacturing run I doubt they are producing different models of panels. In the future they could choose not to sell the top panels other than to Samsung Electronics but probably won't happen.

The manufacturer is the same but there are different quality of panels. LG has different models using different panels and the budget brands buy the lower quality ones.

Samsung Display is doing exactly what LG did with OLED. With it being so new and probably only 1 model at each Sony, Samsung, and potentially Alienware, I don't think there will be more than 1 panel model being manufactured this year.

Then it's up to the TV maker to use it correctly. Since they are all going to be top of the line, probably won't be much difference this year unless Sony just screws the cpu side of it up.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge into the world of OLED for my basement this spring. I have it narrowed down to the 65 inch LG C1 or C2.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an outdoor TV? It would be for my screened in patio and I would like to keep it under $1500. I'm thinking 42 inch max.
