Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Scott or anyone else that can help. My parents are looking for a new TV for a new guest house they are building in Texas on my sisters property, and it's gonna get a lot of natural light. My first thoughts are always OLED, but I figure since it's gonna be a bright room, maybe the Q90? He looked at the Q80 and 70, but I told him the 70 doesn't have local dimming, and the 80 isn't all that much better.
So would you say Q90 for sure, or is there something else comparable I'm not thinking of? Or is OLED in a bright room not as bad as it's made out to be. My C1 looks fine in a somewhat bright room.
ThanksLast edited by PVarck31; 02-11-2022, 04:04 PM.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Bright Room, I'd be looking at the QN85 and the QN90, but also the X95J if they're doing above a 65". I have an OLED (Sony A9F) in my somewhat bright room. Ultimately comes down to how much light control they have and how often they'll be watching in the daytime. I always like to ask, do you prefer better brightness (LED) or better contrast (OLED) and there you have it.
I just realized you're in Austin. They are in Georgetown. My brother-in-law is DPS in Austin.
They all love it there. They like to go to Round Rock Express games. I'm gonna probably be heading down there for a week this spring.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I talked to him more about the direction he will be facing looking at the tv, and I don't think the light thing is gonna be a problem. They just watch news and game shows during the day anyway, but he wants the best quality movie/streaming experience possible at night, and he saw some OLEDs at Best Buy and loved them. I told him imo OLED will give him that.
So he bought the 77" LG C1. So we both have the same TV now.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Just ordered a U8G to play the Hisense panel lottery!
I had a C1, but it had some noticeable red tinting on the left side that I couldn't unsee. I was moving at the time and just had them take it vs replacing. Not terrible timing. That was early December. Been rocking a 2009 Panny 720p plasma. In all honestly it's a better TV for viewing sports than the C1 was.
I decided to go with a more budget friendly set based on recent usage. We have a 10 month old and our movie watching and my gaming has gone to near zero. I could also see her launching something hard into the screen even though I have deemed the TV room a soft toy only zone. I figure I'll be better off getting an OLED or see how the mini-LED tech has come along in 2-3 years.
Or maybe I won't be able to stand this TV and go right back to a C1
Gaming seems good enough to me. The motion can be wonky with things like fast moving hands, or feet. Coming from a plasma though maybe my expectations are too high.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Hey guys, need a little advice or encouragement from my fellow OS community and passionate gamers like myself.
I have been a Samsung supporter for almost 20 years so much most every electronics device, washer/dryer set, microwave etc are all samsung.
I had a Samsung plasma in 2009 until about 2018 I think it was I loved it was so darn heavy duty.
We have a couple OLED Tvs now that I have enjoyed that really helped my gaming experience but our main Samsung TV in living room starting to get backlight bleed or clouding on middle bottom of screen that seems to be getting larger.
I'm not sure how much to repair it yet but seriously been replacing it and done my research on both Samsung neo and LG C1 and I'm ready to buy the LG C1 but I'm afraid it would bother knowing its not a samsung and i can't wait until july of this year for Samsung OLED TVS to come out.
My question I guess is would I be disappointed in the TV just because its LG not a Samsung? I love the specs of both TVS but C1 is just better to me im not a fan of LG stuff I always looked away would never even consider anything LG in the past, but the C1 just pops and everything i want in my next TV but does the name really matter?
I'm not a fan of that pointer and app stuff on LG I can navigate thru Samsung stuff, settings etc with a breeze, but LG I feel I would be lost.
What do you guys that have the LG C1 like best about the TV and are settings and things hard to get use to or adjust to?
I spend most of my time playing games and watching movies would burn in be an issue?
I'm just stuck here fellas been a buyer of Samsung for years but hear and seen videos, reviews how much people enjoy an OLED TV.
Also wondering was anyone in same situation as me?
I can only afford the C1 65inch would love the 77 was looking at 70 and up in my original search just wanted to go bigger than past tvs but it either has to be the LG C1 65 or another Samsung and I guess the Neo i think 65 is same price right now as the C1.
Thanks guys sorry to ramble on, but such a big decision were talking about $1900 to $2200 decision.
* The 2.1 port thing and 4 of them on C1 is a huge consideration, and of course the deeper blacks etc vs the Neo dark grays.

If you want to stick with Samsung, just be aware their QD-OLED will likely be the same price as Sonys, which is $4,000

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Hey scott, thanks for reply. Yeah i can't drop 4,000 on a TV. I think the most I spent was 2500 on that plasma.
I'm leaning toward the C1 more and more.Youtube: https://youtube.com/@mlbnetworkleagu..._hz5M86fl-FbW4

I’d get the C1, it’s a solid TV. I have 2 of the older C9’s and a CX as well, stellar.

Get a Samsung QN90A. It's a little more than the C1 because it never went back on sale after Christmas, but it's a really good LED TV. You won't be disappointed.
It sounds like you will hate the LG no matter what due to being loyal to Samsung.Comment
