    Re: The Office: Season 8

I definitely like the idea of potentially bringing David Wallace back in some regard. I'm yearning for some kind of movement back toward normalcy.

I still can't vibe with anything the writers have decided to do with Andy this year. I think Andy as the new boss would have been funny and awesome had it actually been true Andy as the boss instead of some hack job knockoff of Michael Scott. My favorite Andy moment of the season was the precise moment he had his freak out and punched the wall, because that was the one of the few times I could actually see the real Andy in there.

With all that said, I didn't know next week was the season finale. I'd like to see if they could put together another season that returns to something closer to what the Office was to begin with.

Thought I'd slip this in The Office thread.

John Krasinski and Matt Damon have co-wrote a screenplay that began production a couple of weeks ago.

Here is the general outline of "Promised Land" :

LOL, I'd just like to see "Jim" (JK) have some success in the movies.

Gus Van Sant is directing, so there is no way it won't be any good.

Yeah, he did Good Will Hunting. Hopefully this writing project will be half as successful for Damon as GWH.

That plot resembles There Will Be Blood. If it's anything like it, I will go see it.

I was watching local Derby coverage earlier and they interviewed Kate Flannery (Meredith) as she was going in and her comment on The Office was kind of amusing. The (horrible) interviewer asked something about spilling the beans about what's coming up and Kate skirted the question and said "Our writers are.........greeeaat...we have some really loyal fans."

Maybe it's just me, but I took that as "Our writers kind of suck, I can't believe people are still watching."

                    Day one.

Season finale tonight. Based on all reports, this show will be significantly different next year, so it will be interesting to see how they wrap up this season.

I haven't read any reports, but I like the sound of that. The finale, while not terribly exciting, was like one big sigh of relief. Robert California is gone. Nellie seems to have taken a reduced role, if that. And Sabre is no longer affiliated with Dunder-Mifflin. I also appreciated seeing David Wallace's return. It's a big step toward normalcy, even if Andy appears to be back at the helm, of which I'm not a fan.

The finale sort of felt like that scene from the Matrix Revolutions where Neo and Trinity's ship flies out of the bleakness of the world, above the clouds and briefly into the blue sky. There's that large sense of clarity, cleanliness, and relief after hours of grimy and dirty filler.

Andy annoyed me in this episode. I was looking forward to it. But seriously how stupid was the mop on carpet?

It was painful to watch awkward Andy. I guess that was the point. It was funny how Erin and Andy both had to remind the other to tone it down.

I like the Nellie character. She reminds me of a female Ricky Gervais from the original show.

What really changed from the beginning of the season? We lost the occasional presence of Robert California, but gained the presence of Nellie. I would have rather kept Robert California and ditched Nellie.

Thinking back, for me Dwight was the best part of this episode. Mose dressed as him during the chase was pretty good. I enjoyed Dwight more than the in office stuff. Also, glad to see the asian warehouse worker back again.

The Mose thing was good, but I hate the Angela/Dwight storyline. Always have.

Of course, I think Nellie's hilarious too, so my sense of what's entertaining might be different than many others. Fine with her in a reduced role, just hopefully not like that guy (that went on three dates with Pam) that Michael stole. Traveling salesman or not - what ever happened to that guy?

Also hopeful that David Wallace (and the split from Sabre) returns The Office to some kind of "normalcy" for its' likely final season. This season might've been seeing about how far out there they (the writers) can push the show post-Steve Carell. Now that they did, they can put together a nice season to end the show on.

And if not...spin-off with Jim Carrey! (assuming he returns from the Finger Lakes. )
