Haha yeah I brought it up in here because they are my favorite band. The band has changed so much from their first album to their most recent and I'm a fan of all of it. Their early music definitely was more angry and pissed off lyrics but turned into a more progressive style with Colors. I think instrumentally they have as much talent as anyone. Mordecai as you mentioned will always be my favorite song just ahead of White Walls. The ending of White Walls is perfect with amazing guitar and drum solos.

btw I didn't see a Metal thread so forgive me if this was put in the wrong place.

Mother of God the New High on Fire album is glorious. After the slight disappointment of Snakes for the Divine, its a return to brutal form. Epic.

Mordecai was one of them. The other was Obfuscation. Though to be fair, I quit listening to both about a minute and a half in, just because I wasn't a fan of the vocals. Perhaps I will give 'em another chance here tonight.

Okay, so after listening further on Mordecai, I think I may have been too hasty. From the middle on was more my kind of song. Clean vocals that allow me to hear the solid instrumentation behind. Not sure I'm willing to wade through the anger (for lack of a better term) of some of their vocals for that, but to be fair, not too bad.

I consider metal to be a subgenre of rock, so it all fits into this thread haha

The first single Days Go by is good, and so is the instrumental I've heard of The Future is Now (which is to be the first track on the album). I've also heard the song Cruising California (Bumping in My Trunk), which is easily the poppiest thing they've ever done. Sounds like Top 40 material. However, I actually find it kind of catchy hahaha, and I can't stand this era's Top 40 music.

I disagree, I can understand that within the roots of music, rock came first and metal evolved from it, but at this point I think they are completely separate.

I've always wondered why there wasn't a metal specific thread. There are so many subgenres to cover. Also it makes me wonder where would hardcore fall? I'd love an extreme music thread, since a majority of my listening habits would fit there. Would be great to have a place where guys post death metal, deathcore, metalcore, black metal, thrash, etc.

What forms of metal though? Alternative radio metal? I have some extreme bands that I'd like to share that wouldn't go over very well with the rock crowd.

Pretty much all metal I consider to still be subgenres of the main genre of rock music. I consider rock to encompass almost anything that involves a band that has drums, bass, and guitar, weather it be punk, ska, alternative, classic rock, metal, folk rock, pop/rock, indie, grunge, etc. And each of those all have their subgenres. I consider rock to encompass all of that.

And I enjoy most metal too, except brutal death metal haha. I don't mind screaming, but the death grunt? No thanks.

I love the death grunts lol, I can understand how nu metal, alt metal, post metal, prog metal, etc would easily fit within the rock parameters, but where would be an acceptable place to share a band like this:

                              *warning, extreme music ahead*

Most guys hate that "noise" but it honestly fires me up, that kinda insanity gives me energy. I just think it's getting increasingly difficult to classify music these days, but to be honest I don't think a band like this would garner enough of a following anyway lol, regardless of how much I like them.
