Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms
Wife and I wasted 8 hours of our life binging 1899. We could not stop watching because of how well acted it was was. But the payoff was……ugh. Convoluted mumbo jumbo that was so all over the place with far too many unanswered questions of the “why”.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms
Wednesday came out today. I'm 5 episodes in and I love it.
Jenny Ortega plays a fantastic Wednesday Addams. All of the other characters are interesting and fun too.
There is mystery and dark fun all wrapped together in 1 enjoyable package.

It was definitely worth it. Finished it in two days, but could have stayed up all night watching it. It is easily one of our top shows. The acting is tremendous and the twist on the whole show was excellently done. I definitely recommend this to anyone. Hoping they make a 2nd season.Comment

Yeah we ended up finishing Wednesday in 2 days as well.
My wife normally falls asleep if we start watching anything past like 8pm, and she kept asking for 1 more episode as we hit 9 and 10pm because she was so invested into it.
Great acting, interesting mystery, and just some really fun characters.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms
I'm five episodes into Wednesday. I'll admit that I started watching because of Jenna Ortega and I continue watching because of her as well. She heightens every part of the show, and without her I think this would just be something akin to the CW shows out there that I simply ignore (and as someone who is not a fan of anything else Addams Family related).
Yet, she is amazing and she lifts the show up so much. I wanted to try and pace it out to like an episode a week, but I'm sure I'll finish it by this weekend.
I believe the plan is to have multiple seasons, so I'm looking very forward to that.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Also - saw that Thing was an actual hand. The man wore a green screen (or blue screen) suit all the way up to his hand and then did all the walking with his hand. That is just next level for this show for me.Comment

Yes, her acting as Wednesday is superb. Her emotionless face at times that needed emotion was on point. I honestly can't think of anyone better that could have played that role right now.

Regarding Wednesday the character, What's really better about those emotionless parts are when she does convey emotion (like a little smile), or how she lets emotionless gestures still show emotion (especially when she lowers her head and looks through her eyebrows, so to speak).
I also like that she doesn't do things (like that dance at the Raven) just to "be weird." She’s legitimately just being herself, and is completely okay with that. She’s not putting on a show of confidence or quirkiness. It’s literally just her being her.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Yeah I think Wednesday's character was very well written and very well acted. The statuesque posture with dead pan delivery really made those moments stand out where she did show anything. I also liked Enid a lot. She too was a great contrast to Wednesday. A few other characters and points of interest were very CW like and/or would have benefitted from a couple of extra episodes to provide more context. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable show imo.
The dance was painfully awkward, but at the same time I loved it. it really did seem to fit.
Loved all the different pet names that Gomez had for Wednesday tooComment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms
Long post warning:
So I finished bingeing Wednesday, stayed away from the thread until I finished it. Went in not really knowing Jenna Ortega at all, came out a huge fan of hers. She carried the show as the title character. Her mannerisms, way of speaking, stage direction etc. Out of the supporting characters, really enjoyed Enid and the contrast they had for most of the show with
Spoilerthe payoff at the end
I love Louie Guzman as an actor, since I saw him first in "The Count of Monte Cristo" but I felt he was miscast as Gomez in this. Catherine Zeta Jones was spooky and fine. Happy they found a nice role for Christina Ricci, always liked her too. I liked the dance scene mentioned above, felt like they told Jenna to just do some moves, it seemed in character to me. That and the rooftop cello scene were some really solid character moments.
Hope it gets renewed, really enjoyed it. Netflix can be a bit iffy when it comes to renewing and canceling newer shows. Fully on board with another season. That is as someone who really doesn't get into the CW drama type stuff but loves the Victorian/Gothic aesthetic. With this and Tokyo Vice I'm spoiled for the year. Would be a shame if it went the way of the Tom Hardy show "Taboo" with only one really interesting season.Last edited by LambertandHam; 12-01-2022, 04:38 AM.Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms
No doubt Wednesday gets renewed, it got the Netflix record of most watched English show beating Stranger Things…amazing. It really captured a bunch generations from fans of the 50s show, my generation of the 90s movies to todays youth. It has a Harry Potteresque vibe with the school and delightful weirdness to it.
I even went back and watched the Addams Family movies in the 90s and it’s much more funnier today than it was as a kid. Haven’t rewatched in over 20 years. Jokes went over my head back then. It’s so good

I laughed and laughed. It was the equivalent to the African Anteater Ritual Dance and Elaine's Little Kicks. Cringy and hilarious.Comment
