the nation's capital in punishment for a rebellion years ago of the thirteen districts it presides over forces two youths from each of the said districts (only 12 since they destroyed the 13th who started the rebellion) to battle to the death for the entertainment of the captial district every year. The winner is basically set for life and their district also receives benefits from the capital.

The games are televised and everyone in the country is pretty much forced to watch. It is the event of the year for everyone and the winners become hero's to all.

It would be brutal enough if adults were involved, but isn't this ages 12-17?

The story sounds interesting enough. The trailer on the other hand looks pretty bad. I'll probably end up catching this on Blu-ray later on down the line.

When reading it I kept thinking about multi-player Halo from back in the day but with kids, and being drawn out over a long period of time and on a bigger map. And more of a survival aspect than just "kill your opponent" like in Halo. There are obviously many twists and turns in the book but that's the gist of it.

Many say Suzanne Collins may have been influenced by Battle Royale. It's heralded as 1 of the most violent movies ever made. I picked up my Blu Ray copy this afternoon & can't wait to watch it in it's un-cut glory

I'm about finished with a book I'm reading and Hunger Games is next. A friend of mine who never reads finished all three books in about a week. He says they are amazing.

I've mentioned before (if anyone actually cared to remember) that The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is my favorite written work of all-time. Anything that closely resembles this sense of brutality in society is an instant must for me.

Looking forward to reading the first book and actually watching the movie.

My wife is like a 16-year-old girl when it comes to these books. It's like Twilight magnified x5.

Taking my 12 year old daughter to see this. I think she has read each book at least 4 times....

My wife is headed out of town this weekend and into next week, and she's a huge fan of the books (she teaches Language Arts, 8th grade, so that's how she got hooked on them) and has been begging me to read them for a year. After seeing the trailers for the movie I was finally intrigued enough and she brought the books home from school today.

My goal is to get through at least the first two by the time she gets back.

A bunch of my former students kept talking about these books so I broke down and bought em. I love em. The funny thing is, my wife, who is the biggest Harry Potter/Twilight fan out there, won't give these books a chance.

That's because she knows they're better than Twilight and nothing can ever be better than Twilight.
