Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
Loved the books, and given the great advance reviews this thing is getting, it's a must see.
It'll be interesting to see if the way I viewed the characters in my mind changes so that I now only see them as the movie characters.Comment

Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
My wife is super excited about this movie.
I tried to read the book and got bored about 10 pages in. I may give it another go, though. She's going to leave work early to see it opening day, then we're going sometime together later.Comment

Yeah you should actually give it another shot. Always got to give a book 50 pages, at least, before giving up.
But I would suggest reading before viewing. I'm still not sure if I'll just wait for it to drop on DVD or whatever, but I feel these movies just ruin it. More often than not.
I thought the pace was actually pretty good, not much lag time in between a lot of the good stuff, not page after page of what feels like "filler." Can be both a good and bad thing. I thought the books were good, enjoyable. I wouldn't say they were "amazing" necesarilly, but they were good. They're actually pretty short, and easy reads. Still kills me that these are for young adults as they are easily more "violent" than, say, Harry Potter. Sign of the times, I suppose. And I wont touch Twilight, so can't speak to that .... but, definitely worth a read.
My main knock; incredibly predictable. Or I thought so. Surprises were had of course, but some occasional turn of events seemed a little bland, lackluster. I dunno. One man's opinion.

Just got back from the movie. Would have gone to the midnight release, but I had two quizzes. I try not to compare the movie to the book so I thought it was pretty good. I can't stand the actor who played Petta though, Josh HutchersonBuffalo Bills

Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
I've read The Hunger Games series close to a dozen times. I'm a teacher and I read at least the first book out loud to the class. They have the choice with the rest of the series. My school took our eighth graders to watch it today. Reaction was mixed. It stayed with the structure of the story but eliminated so many things that add to the depth of the book. My students really were pretty disappointed. I thought the movie was entertaining. It's hard not to compare the movie and book. When I do that, there is a part of me that is disappointed with parts of the movie. But if they stayed completely true to the book, the movie would have been six hours long. So I understand why the movie was made the way it was.Comment

Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
I've never really read a book then saw the movie adaptation, but I read these books and am looking forward to the movie. First impressions from trailers, my mental image was a bit off but I think it'll settle in. My fiance' is out at a midnight showing right now while I have to get up early tomorrow... I'll see what she says.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
Really enjoyed the film I have some minor issues with it, but it's pointless to nitpick. The acting across the board was superb not a sniff of a weak performance anywhere.
I knew the movie was going to make some serious cash but NYC, LA, and SD had about 90% of their weekend showings sold out. That's amazing in itself, having a 20 million dollar midnight opening isn't a bad start at all.Last edited by Russell_SCEA; 03-24-2012, 12:41 AM.Comment

Re: The Hunger Games (movie) - March 23rd
This will be the first movie that I'm going to watch after I read the book so I'm interested in seeing it. I always hear people say they are disappointed in a movie after reading a book. I should be seeing this sometime this week or next weekend, I can't wait.I've never really read a book then saw the movie adaptation, but I read these books and am looking forward to the movie.
