Once you go SSD you wonder how you ever lived without it.

Yeah I don't think I've used a non ssd in about 4 years.

This reminds me a need to buy a bigger one. Wonder if the prices are any lower. Dropping half a grand on a 64gigger isn't fun!

I got a 120 GB for $128 at frys. They can be had for under $1/gig on NewEgg. A highly rated one if you wait for the right deal.

Well worth it IMO. Prices should plummet as the factories recover as well.

Depends.......if you using 3 or more monitors get the 7970, those cards work better in the triple monitor or more set up. If you just using one monitor, then get the 680.

I might go with the SLI setup later on but I think one 680 should do the job for now. Thanks for the tip with Ivy bridge, it does seem to be the online consensus that the Ivy Bridge is better. I am going with a similar motherboard but if anyone has a better idea at similar price, I am all ears.

I am waiting on a new Credit card to make this purchase so I have about a week before I pull the trigger on this . but I have a few more questions, Is the SSD worth it? I am hearing about Intel smart response technology, no idea what it does but Do I want it? Is there anything I am missing here?

Not sure on the Intel technology, but there is absolutely no reason not to get one unless you are on a very low budget. So in summary, there is absolutely no reason for you not to get one.

The Ivy Bridge also uses 47 less watts of power, so you will save monthly too.

Thanks for the tips, I am quite pleased with the setup I have now

CPU: I have settled on the Intel I5 3570k After I was talked down to the 3770k, I did further research and the internet consensus was that for games(my main purpose), there was no real benefit for the 3770k so I am going to save money on that.

Motherboard: Again, I switched this up based on internet opinions( I spent hours on tomshardware forums and a few overclocking forums), I dont think I can go wrong either way but I decided on the ASRock Z77 Extreme

Memory: I am sticking with the CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866

Cooling: I decided against liquid cooling so I am going with a COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR I have never had a liquid cooling system so I am hesitant to jump in that pool but since I will not be OC'ing so I dont think I will need it.

Video card: I was going back and forth between the different GTX cards but I am going to stay with the EVGA Geforce GTX 680. Since I am saving money on the CPU, I dont mind sticking with this card, especially since it draws much less power than comparable cards, This is important since I will eventually go with a SLI setup.

HDD and SSD: I know I want at least a 1TB HDD and I will probably get a 128GB SSD,I will most likely go with whatever is cheapest and has good reviews but if anyone has any ideas on something I need to have, I am all ears.

Case: I am downgrading a bit to a mid size tower so I am going with a CM HAF 912 Everything I have read online says this is a great case. It has great airflow so this is obviously a great choice for me.

Power Supply: I am going to go with a Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-750M 750W A friend reccomended this one to me so I am going to go with his (expert) opinion, it has a few good reviews on newegg also...

So that Is what I am going to go with, I am right around my $1500 price point too. My computer knowledge is no where near what it used to be but I am very happy with this. If anyone else has suggestions, lets hear em before I pull the trigger!

I researched that case when I was building mine. It doesn't have USB 3.0 porta on the front which was a killer for me. Also, the 680 is a mammoth card. If you are going to have 2 of them you should make sure that case has enough room to spare. I went with the Antec Eleven Hundred. I don't remember what the size difference was, but that was just the one I happen to go with.

Good stuff, i think a good compromise would be the Corsair Carbide 400r, it's another mid range tower but I just read a forum where a guy put in duel SLI GTX 690(overkill?) so I gotta assume it will work for me. It also has solid reviews on Newegg and on forums. The front only has USB 3.0 ports but it does come with a USB 2.0 adapter so that will work for me.

It was in a review I read, I thought it sounded a bit off as USB 2.0 are backwards compatible with USB 1.0. Either way It appears to be a solid case.

The USB2.0 adapter is probably for folks without a USB3.0 header on their motherboards, USB 3.0 headers are 20 pin, vs 4 pins for 2.0.

Anyway, when shopping for a case IMO you need to prioritize looks, then research it and make sure the parts fit, etc. You only put everything in once but you'll be looking at it every day, so as long as the parts fit you'll be happier with something that looks nice.

I ended up removing a bunch of metal from it to make things more efficient (would have done the same to any case), but I liked the way it looks (aside from the blue evolution logo which I had planned on painting, but it faces the wall so I don't see it anyway) and it was on sale for $60.

In your situation where you aren't overclocking and are planning on using a blower style videocard, I would go for something designed to be a bit quieter, like this Antec P280, it would have been my choice if I wasn't going for an overclocked air cooled system.
