The first two minutes (aka Debs reaction) were shown at Comic Con today and are on YouTube to watch.

I'd embed but I'm on my phone. Someone called it, though I obviously don't think the two minutes show the entire reaction. It's gonna be good (except for Seymour and the others who don't like the show much anymore but keep watching).

Dexter: The Beginning of the End

While Showtime’s president, David Nevins, kept using the term “likely” today, when describing the show ending with Season 8 next year, Michael C. Hall reiterated, “The plan is to do this season and a final eighth season.” Hall added that he felt that when it came to Dexter and Deb, he felt that two more seasons felt right, to tell the story of the two of them "negotiating their relationship in this new landscape.” For Hall, Debra finding out about Dexter is “as fundamentally a game-changing development as we’ve had. Dexter’s secret has been his own and it’s not anymore. And it’s been so invigorating to play these scenes. To be preoccupied in ways Dexter’s never been required to be.”

Said executive producer Scott Buck, “I think we always knew we’d always eventually tell this story, but since it so dramatically changes the nature of the show we didn’t want to consider it until we were closing in [on the end].”

Dexter received considerable criticism in Season 6 for various reasons. Discussing so many people predicting the twist involving Edward James Olmos’ character, which occurred nine episodes into the season, Buck said it was, “Obviously a bit frustrating,” though he also stressed, “it was never meant to be the great big twist that whole season depended on.” That being said, going forward, “I think if we had a secret like that to be revealed later in the season we’d be a lot more careful with that, sure.”

When one journalist rather bluntly asked if we could expect improved writing in Season 7, Carpenter replied that if she’d been asked that, “Before we shot [Season 7], that might have hurt my feelings. But because I know what we’re doing this year, I’m really excited about showing you what we’ve done.”

Said Hall, “Dexter is never more compelling then when he was in trouble and he’s never been in deeper trouble than he is now.”

Here's hoping that S7 is much better than last season and its great that the creative team knows their mistakes from S6.

I'm real excited for this season. With the story they have, it should be able to bring it back to the tension that made 1/2/4 so exciting. Granted, I'm biased towards anything Dexter (books and tv show), so I'd be excited even if I knew the season was going to be a piece of crap and I'd still enjoy it.

Holy hell. I got chills watching this. I think we're in for a damn good season.

Shows a good amount (probably from only the first few episodes, though, by the looks of it) so avoid if you don't want spoilers.

But yeah...this looks like it'll have the "Old School Dexter" tone to it.

Well, that trailer makes me believe they'll take the show where it needs to go after that Season 6 finale.

Really hope it's gonna be as good as it seems.

That actually looks good and I'm not kidding. I'm finally looking forward to a new season other than for unintentional comedic purposes. Hell has officially frozen over because the series may finally return to its roots. The same tired formula of a serial killer on the loose and Dexter going after them was getting so tiring. I only hope they don't make Deb so braindead in her ability to put one and one together that it frustrates the viewer.

Now hopefully they don't leave plot holes big enough to drive a truck through and discontinue that Wile E Coyote logic that befell them the last couple of seasons.
