The pace has definately picked up this season, might be a little too quick though because I really don't understand the purpose of the Louis storyline. I guess my theory of him being Dexter's brother is shot to hell. I still can't figure out why he sent Dexter the arm if he apparently knew nothing of who Dexter really is. And as with Mike, him getting offed so casually and quick like that takes away from the overall effect. The way this show is going the storyline with the mobster should be over by the next episode.

I do like the darker tone this year and this is shaping up to be much better than the past 2 seasons. The pet peeve so far is the haphazard way people are getting killed in the middle of the day like the airport and the way Louis was shot in the middle of an marina in the daytime where there would be security cameras everywhere (not to mention Louis vandalizing a boat in the daytime rather than at night without even attempting to cover his face.) They already established that the marina has security cameras in an earlier season. Its Miami so I'm thinking that marina is rarely empty during the day.

This mobster guy is either extremely stupid or extremely lucky. First he offs a guy in his house garage in daylight (was he even wearing gloves when he stabbed him with the screwdriver?)and casually walks back to his car for all the neighbours to see and then does the same to Louis in a wide open marina. I know this show is sloppy but can't they at least make an attempt to be realistic?

When Dexter finally gets caught, I'm thinking the only way for the police to figure it out is if he does at the 50 yard line at halftime during the Superbowl because the cops are absolutely clueless even though people are committing murders like it's the old west.

I think these deaths are the writers killing off the nonsense. Louis had no purpose. Mike had no purpose. They realized they were filler so on order to focus on what matters, they killed them off. Clean slate to act as if they never existed.

Watch out Harrison.

Also the mob guy wasn't wearing gloves but his "security" wiped down the screwdriver. I think he doesn't care because he has people to clean up the mess. It's comic but I feel they want to show us how much clout he has, how hard it is supposed to be for Miami Dade Metro to catch him.

Forgot to mention the best part of this new season. While they looked like they totally abondoned the Louis storyline midstream, they also nixed the Deb-Dex love story which was super creepy and anybody who liked that storyline has issues. Not even a mention except briefly at the start of the 1st episode. You would have thought that if they wanted to pursue it they would have shown scenes about a conflicted Deb having the hots for a serial killer and not have Dexter involved with that new blonde chick. Wisely the writers listened to the viewers disgust at this goofy incest sideplot.

I don't know if it was just me over analyzing but it felt like it came up in a few instances when he stayed at her house. One example being when Debra listed all the things they were going to do together (eat, go to work, etc) and Dexter said "I hope you have a big shower" followed by a cut to Deb's reaction face. I can't remember but I think there was another part that toed the line.

Plus they included the storyline in the season recap. I'm not convinced that the storyline will be completely dropped but would like it if it was.

If we're in store for 8 more episodes of what we've gotten thus far, this is going to be an all-time classic season. I am loving this.

I'm still finding it hard to believe they've redeemed themselves this much. I just hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.

this Deb/Dexter relationship has all kinds of dynamics to it. I don't know why everyone was freaked out by the minor incest plot, these are not biological siblings and one is a serial killer so lets remember his brain is wired differently. see him trying to pull and manipulate Deb now? that is a realllllllly nice touch from the writers that i did not see coming. cannot wait to watch this 'relationship' or whatever it is develop throughout the season.

for a minute there, i thought Dexter was going to burn Speltzer alive, that would have been .. something ..

but i especially love it when the kills Dexter is stalking are a physical match or better, like little Chino before and this guy now, Dexter has judo training or something of that sort if i remember, and its a rare treat watching him go against equal opposition.

My favorite character though, outside Dex of course, has to be Quinn.... He's such a wildcard, and can be a great detective... I feel like he's going to play a major part in the rest of the show.

edit: ^^^ that 'dark vibe' is exactly the right words to describe the conversation right at the very end of the episode, great use of the lighting and the smoke coming out was such a nice touch too

It's clear they are cutting the fluff and making sure the focus is on Dexter and his story.
