    Re: The Newsroom (HBO)

I set this up to record on HBO. Will try to start the first episode this weekend sometime.

I've liked pretty much everything Sorkin has ever done, with West Wing obviously being the tops.

Aaron Sorkin TV/Movie career, through the years.

(I guess there might be some spoilers in there, not much)

Sorkin said in the "Inside the episode" that the show will always be taking place in the recent past.

Just watched a commercial on espn.

          Spoiler

So looks like we know what the show "news" stories will be about. Kinda don't like that. But if acting is good, I'll continue to watch.

One theory out there is that this is being done because the Sorkin gets to re-tell the story the way he thinks it should have been done..... I'll leave it at that.

              Couple of things,

Spoilers guys, especially on future episodes.

Let's keep the politics out of this thread.

Yes, you need to watch Sports Night at the very least.

I love most all things Sorkin but I have a hard time watching Sports Night. A 30 minute show with a laugh track without commercials just feels strange and is hard to get through.

Loved the first episode. Every series should open that way.

Keep the politics out of a thread about a show that by design has a strong political bent from a creator with an even stronger political bent?

                      ya, that'll work.

I'd type more, but I'm going over to Ice Cream World, but I don't think I'm going to order any ice cream.

Then go elsewhere if you want to debate the politics? That's not all that show is about, I don't see why is that so hard to understand?

You're kidding, right? Did you watch the opening rant? That's only the surface. Don't be naive. ESPECIALLY today, news and politics are inseparable... but I'll be a good boy.

Does anyone have a idea of who Jeff Daniel's character is based on? Or is a mish mash of different news anchors or just outta Sorkin's head?

Which is partly what he was preaching against. Fair/balanced/unbiased news is pretty much dead right now. Or at the very least on a long hiatus. They all have their big company agenda to maintain those God-almighty profit lines.

Absolutely love this show. Had to DVR it on Sunday and finally got around to it and thought the pace and smarts of this show is amazing. It's a good insight to the making of a news show.
